Rest in peace.

I don't remember seeing him a single time, and I kept wondering why he wasn't out there on returns helping Norfleet with his decisions.

IntrepidPapaya

That's because the 27 / 27 includes one 12 yard run he had on a good break in the 1st.

If you remove the one fluke, you get 15 yards on 26 carries. 0.57 yds/attempt.

Fuck.

IntrepidPapaya

Let him finish the season- what good comes from cutting him at the half point of the season? But if there's no improvement in his play calling by winter, I think this should be seriously considered. A lot of dynamic players on that offense right now, even if they're not amazing players, and he can't choose plays that use them. That's just not good enough.

I let myself forget my Borges doubts for a little while, but it's getting so old. The blame can't just be shifted to Rich Rod's legacy anymore. The guy has to get his shit figured out and start doing something impressive out there, our we need to start an OC search.

Gardner has gotten way too confident in Gallon as a receiver.

Yep, a while back we got word on here that the US site would be getting some more flannel designs, and the nice ones from the UK stores were the obvious choice. Apparently Uniqlo had different ideas. Pretty disappointing.

I use T-Mobile and it's great in town, so long as you're aware of what you're getting. I pay $30 per month with no contract, and I get unlimited 3g data and text with 100 minutes. In and around town is great more or less everywhere, but if I head 30 minutes out of town I don't get service. However, I still have 911 everywhere if I need it. It's reduced service for a fraction of the price, and I'm free to try out any other carrier whenever I want.

I'd be interested in seeing how many fewer people get heat-stroke at a night game as opposed to these first few weeks of 90-100 degree days. Seems to me like night games would be better for stadium welfare at the beginning of the season.

Wow, that MSI board seems like great bang for the buck, thanks for the feedback.

IntrepidPapaya

But I can't think of another industry that inspires the same allegiance. Why is it? Money investment? I don't see people having such strong ties to Toyota or Honda.

You probably don't spend that much time in circles that really love cars, do you? Fanaticism of this sort is definitely there if you look, but video games are just one of the most popular communities like this. That means there is a larger spectrum of opinion and more people on the extreme ends. Not to mention more people in the middle to keep complaining about people on the ends...

Look at it this way: Ballmer is still not respected as the CEO of MS, there's every reason to think that he'll be on his way out in the not too distant future. If Mattrick knew he wasn't going to get picked to move into that role, this is an excellent position to take instead. If he fails, he gets a huge payout and nobody blames him (as you said, it's Zynga, nobody is expecting a miracle). If he succeeds, he becomes an incredibly hot prospect down the road, maybe even returning to MS one day as a more seasoned executive. If you don't see how this is a positive leap, you're not thinking hard enough about how corporate politics work.

I'm not sure which GE business your friends joined, but in mine I've seen none of this. I got hired in for a salary larger than even I thought I deserved, and they pay overtime to salaried employees. Also, the business is excellently situated to allow young engineers to advance in a career. They've had several hiring freezes in recent years (through acquisitions and economic collapses) and it's resulted in an older engineering pool that is rapidly retiring, leaving room for young engineers to move into larger roles earlier. I don't know which business OP is entering, but I would recommend mine to anybody and everybody.

IntrepidPapaya

Hey OP, congrats. Some folks are being negative here, remember that GE is a company with 300,000+ employees around the world, so your mileage may vary. I started with GE Aviation Systems in Grand Rapids only six months ago after leaving school, and it's been a pleasure so far. The amount of respect and the opportunities that I've gotten to prove myself early on have been incredible, and the people that I hired in with feel similarly.

Give the kinect time, they probably have some cool ideas for its use outside of changing the channels.

We already gave the Kinect time, and they ultimately made a fancy camera that's only used for voice commands. So far, they haven't done much to try to convince people that the mandatory Kinect is worth your money. A vague comment about reading my heart rate doesn't sell me on the concept.

If you purchased an Xbox 360, you purchased a 3 core machine versus the PS3 which has 6 cores. (Note HT cores != physical cores, barely comparable). By all means, the PS3 was leaps and bounds ahead of the 360 in terms of hardware.

I'm not sure what your point is here? You also purchased a console a year earlier, with no concrete information about Sony's plans. And the PS3 is leaps and bounds ahead, and most end-of-cycle cross-platform releases are struggling to run on the 360 hardware. It's just a known fact now that a new AAA release on 360 is going to have framerate issues compared to PC or PS3. If the two are now going head-to-head right out of the gate, and you already know that the PS4 is significantly more powerful, that seems like a pretty good reason to go with a PS4, not the trivial reason you act like it is.

IntrepidPapaya

I want to temper my response this way, but I'm not sure that there are hardcore TV viewers and Skype users that are willing to shell out $500 for a box that does those things. Gamers see themselves as the core audience for consoles for a reason; all the dashboard ads in the world don't make up for the guy that buys a $60 game every other week for the lifespan of the console.

IntrepidPapaya

As someone who watches a lot of Netflix, if I still have to pay for Gold membership to watch a service that I already pay for, I'll be getting a PS4 or upgrading my desktop. Unfortunately, my suspicion is that the new ties to cable aren't going to make the Netflix support better.

FWIW, Jolly Pumpkin is often pretty well respected in beer circles. But I hear you, other than that, as much as I enjoy ABC/Corner, it's not exactly world class. After those two you have, what, Grizzly Peak? Blue Tractor? Those wouldn't make my statewide top 10, let alone national.

No, it's pretty easy to predict the results. The moon weighs roughly 7 million million billion kilograms. The ideal delta-V from the moon down to Low-Earth Orbit is about 5,900 meters per second. (In actual fact, an explosion is a real shitty way to change orbits, but we'll just assume that DPRK is super-crafty with their missile and it creates an explosion that is a Hohmann transfer.) To take half of the mass of the moon and put it down in an orbit where it would eventually burn up and land on us, it would ideally require about 300 million billion trillion Joules.

The biggest explosive ever, Tsar Bomba, 'only' released an estimated 200 million billion Joules. To move the mass of the moon like you described, we'd need somewhere around 1,450,000,000,000 Tsar Bomba's.

That mass is there to stay, no matter what the DPRK might tell you.

Not sure if I'm just misunderstanding you, but it is extremely uncommon (as in, I can think of maybe one or two modern aircraft) for any part of an airliner fuselage to remain unpressurized. Equal pressure in all areas of the fuselage minimizes stress on the outer section of the hull, if you pressurized half but not the other half, you'd wind up with weird exotic stresses on the skin and it would probably end badly after a few thousand takeoffs and landings.

TL;DR: It's all pressurized.

IntrepidPapaya

Only at the point where signal quality degrades, which is either for a really shitty cable or a really long cable. For standard use, i.e. connecting your TV to a Blu-Ray player 4 feet away, your HDMI cable either works perfectly or it's broken and should be replaced.

IntrepidPapaya

Dred Scott, Plessy, Korematsu?

Within a very narrow definition of terms you are correct, but I believe imdwalrus is saying that a decision fitting with the constitution can nonetheless be morally or ethically wrong.

IntrepidPapaya

And then ban IED's, and he'd just use something like a tank. People will find a way.

IntrepidPapaya

It's a great brewery to tour, beautiful up there and you can tell they care about their beer.
