I ain't reading all that (and I ain't getting involved in this discussion), I just want to note that the FooF post there ends with
On the flip side, when we protect it, all the physiological brain development in adolescents and teens is part of God’s beautiful design.
and remind everyone involved of the importance of critical analysis and recognising the bias of your sources

idk if this post has multiple levels of dot points, but if it does my device doesn't show them, so I read the start of this list as
"what would you do if they were real?"
"[I would do] Natsuki"
"and then a bunch of thought out answers"
which I thought was very funny thank u for that

what the OP describes doesn't need a deadzone, but as a game design feature it usually has one - lock on is meant to make things easier, right? "when you are locked on you need to hold the mouse perfectly still because the slightest twitch means you need to target again" isn't a convenient gameplay experience, so most such things give you a little bit of leeway in my experience.
more to my actual point, this is such a tiny, nothing issue. again, it's a single function call in the step event of a single object instance. the brainpower both of us have used on this exchange is more than the actual optimisation in question deserves - point_distance is a perfectly good solution, because it worked and let OP move on to other things and never think about it again. if you don't need microoptimisation, then you don't need it. simple as that.
JackFlynt
strong disagree honestly - the deadzone check they might add (and probably should add, responding to a single pixel of movement sounds like it would be way too fine for this use case?) would likely be the same maths as point_distance anyway, right
their version is simpler, your version optimises out, at best, a single use of an inbuilt pythagoras function per step. the optimisation just isn't worth it.
JackFlynt
that's a good thought, thank you!

This sub will be private in two hours, which means no one outside of specifically approved users will be able to make or see posts.
this will be around for 48 hours, at which point we will see what is going on and figure out how to proceed - many subs are staying down for longer, but we haven't discussed that for this sub yet.
JackFlynt
thanks dear you're right I should make a post about that
JackFlynt
I'm glad! Hope you can keep holding it :)

It hasn't, we merely inhabit its decaying corpse puppeting the fingers around for our amusement

Mods look down on memes partially because they're so popular - if we start supporting them they'll take over lmao
(Hence "shitpost" being one of the most common branch subreddit types, behind presumably "porn")
CDs are presumably counted as text for the same reason we allow them on NPT - even though they're image based, the amount of effort required to read and engage with them is more like a text post.

Whew, it's been a while since we had one of these huh
Interesting to see how things have changed, and how some of the trends we started observing way back when have gone since
Glad to see people still like us mostly, even if many of us are less active now - for my part, I made an alt for the couple of months that I was meant to be dead for Halloween one year, and it turned out I preferred using a feminine name online so I kept it (it's actually my legal name now). I do still look in on this place every now and then, but more to support other mods well, Rex, really.
Interesting to see we still have USB people around, although as a data point - I'm a Yuri main, but Monika is the one I have a USB for, for reasons I don't quite remember. So it might not just be that Monikans are more dedicated.
Anyway, thanks again for doing this, it's really cool to see :)

which I can’t link to under this subreddit’s rules
I'm still salty about this :)
