He failed to report an income of 53k, which means he underpaid taxes by 28k
JanEric1
yes, but usually your employer just handles that for you
JanEric1
because if you tell the beginner here about this then they will form bad habits. best to tell them the recommended way.

I fee like if it is mutable you just shouldnt allow a default value for the parameter. If you want to add to an empty list, just pass that explciitely.

19 hours ago by the same OP in the learnpython sub https://www.reddit.com/r/learnpython/comments/1xfeagc/why_do_we_need_cpython_and_python_virtual_machine/
JanEric1
Not really relevant here. You only need that if None is a valid value a users wants to pass explicitly that you need to be able to distinguish from no argument being passed. But here you can't call append on None, so it is fine to use that as the "no argument passed" sentinel in this case.
JanEric1
Yeah, broken on old reddit

I think the idea then would be that lib authors provide versions per contract mode and then you use the matching one that you want for your application/library.
JanEric1
i think thats the point.
If you are not playing fearless a BO1 is shitty enough because of variance. But if you are fearless, then your Bo1 isnt JUST fewer games, it also works completely differently than the first game of a BO3/5 because you pick/ban completely differently.

I already have a nice 8 char line as a separate. I don't need two extra lines which are also weirdly just one character which look super out of place.
And if I have single line blocks then I go from 5 lines to 8 lines. A 60% increase for no readability increase. I would actually say a decrease because it moves the two blocks further apart which just ever so slightly makes it harder to compare them.

Well thats what enabling nullable references is for: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/csharp/fundamentals/null-safety/nullable-reference-types
it is insane that this works better in python with community written api serialization/deserialization libraries than in a statically typed language with the framework from the language author.
JanEric1
i am building the api and defining what i want to except...
var builder = WebApplication.CreateBuilder(args);
// builder.Services.ConfigureHttpJsonOptions(options =>
// options.SerializerOptions.RespectNullableAnnotations = true);
var app = builder.Build();
app.MapPost("/users", (User user) =>
Results.Ok(new { greeting = $"Hello {user.Name.Trim()}!" }));
app.Run();
public sealed class User
{
public required string Name { get; init; }
}
this crashes with a null exception and returns a 500 for a request with
{"name": null}
if i dont also uncomment that line with RespectNullableAnnotations = true despite my type clear being string and not string?
If i do set it the user gets a 400 because they fucked up the request
JanEric1
Especially with this shit where almost everything is a class with a couple tiny functions you just get SO MUCH CODE for such little logic.
JanEric1
I absolutely HATE the C# style. So much wasted space for nothing .
Just got into a project there and there is just so much bullshit with the default formatting and so many other parts of the ecosystem. Like how you have to opt into null safety and even if you do the standard API framework don't respect it if you don't add ANOTHER flag somewhere that yes, if I build my model such that I don't allow null, then I don't fucking want you deserializing into such an object with fucking null.

Yes, it is "this is not a borrow checker hole" and not "this is not a borrow checker hole"
JanEric1
I mean it is what you would naively expect this to do with a math backgorund or no programming background. And iti s also what you want this to do 90%+ that you write it. Just because other languages have a shortcoming here doesnt mean you should follow it.
JanEric1
Altough they are currently just migrating off python 2.7

Probably would have been a very different game. Because then they would have been missing a shinkansen or an unlock somewhere.

Sam and Ben can leave WITH them on the same train. They dont have to wait for the next
JanEric1
How did you do the train line highlights? Just manually trace them on the map?
