My dad was still telling me to go into businesses and ask for the manager and shake their hand because that's how you feel jobs.

He really couldn't comprehend the idea of an HR department that did hiring and just handed employees off to managers because that's not how it worked for him when he was getting started.

Republicans really fucked us by turning home equity into a replacement for income.

Jason207

Half of that is government money laundering rules and the other half is that we literally have to order that much cash from our central vault or the government.

Back in the 90s we'd get a couple of million dollars in cash every Friday, today I doubt banks even get weekly cash deliveries.

Pretty sure he gets kissy a couple of times with women, but there's basically no romance beyond the occasional kiss in the original series, so you could basically argue almost any sexuality you want for any of the characters.

The only thing you can say for sure is Kirk is horny.

I've always pictured Hannah Waddingham as Sybil. I don't actually think she needs to be overweight, she just needs to be imposing, and I think Hannah really pulls that off well.

Nikolaj for Vimes though, fucking love that

I agree is unclear.

He's trying to say that weak celebs are afraid to say "free Palestine from Israel" because that will get them more hate than just saying "free Palestine."

Until you get to the hashtag at the end though, it's very easy to read it as hating on anyone who thinks Palestine should be free.

This is similar to the minimum wage debate, where it always comes down to "some large percentage of people are just meant to suffer no matter how hard they work"

Jason207

He's basically evil in real life, so...

This is another point often missed in the socialized medicine debate. If we're all covered by taxes then auto insurance costs should drop dramatically.

It's also insanely unreliable. My kids got used to double checking spelling with the assistant, but the AI spells things and pronounces things incorrectly. It's also given them factually incorrect information a few times.

I'm one sense it's good, they're learning to doubt sources and double check things, but it's also frustrating to not be able to trust it with simple stuff anymore.

A lot of time "working out together" is code for "you've gotten unhealthy and our sex life has died" and the "getting fit" is a last chance for one partner to get healthy.

And that's really hard to do. It's really hard to do when your partnership is on the rocks, and knowing it's your fault (and you can probably fix it) doesn't help.

So the fit partner keeps going to the gym/rock climbing/dancing/whatever and the unhealthy one doesn't, then they meet someone that likes doing the things ...

Just to SLIGHTLY justify... as an event organizer I've heard tons of horror stories about weddings. Usually they show up early and run long, usually there's tons and tons of garbage, generally venues need to have extra people on staff to solve problems/show people how things work/clean up/keep people from destroying the place... (those services that rent tables and chairs give no fucks about the venue)

Vs say me coming in with my staff and knowing how to use the PA system and take care of it, move in and out efficiently, clean up after ourselves, get out asap, need basically no help or supervision... I understand why there's a price difference there.

I know a lot of venues just refuse to do weddings for any price any more because there's no amount of money that makes sense.

I did wedding DJ'ing for a summer and by the end of the summer I'd increased my fees from 200 an hour to 500 and was still getting booked and then just started saying no because even making 3-4k a weekend just wasn't worth wanting to die for an entire afternoon/evening. I'm not sure what it is about weddings but it truly brings out the worst in people.

I'm absolutely convinced there's an amazing, emotionally devastating cut of that movie somewhere, but the studio saw it and went "where's all the Adam Sandler gross out jokes?!" So they went back and added a bunch of random bullshit that undercuts how dark that movie is.

I also think that the "Republicans bad" narrative doesn't motivate people to be active.

We need to focus on the good Democrats can do, not the bad the Republicans can do. People are motivated to be active by hope, they just try to avoid bad.

A rule that's not written down isn't a rule

They also have excellent preservationists who can repair almost anything.

And if they can't fix it perfectly it just becomes part of the painting's history.

Jason207

I would just assume it's an unfortunate coincidence.

"Man that's rough, are you ever tempted to just go by your middle name?"

Jason207

I had a woman bring a friend to a coffee date, she said she was a little nervous since we met on an app. But she also didn't ask me to buy either of them anything.

Jason207

I think this is that an opening for the distributors to buy up ranches and eliminate competition. So our food will be more expensive and more dangerous.

Jason207

Our solar guy pointed out the huge tree that blocks some of our panels and basically said we COULD take it down, but it probably saves us much on AC during the summer as removing it would make us in power, and it's a nice tree.

So the tree stayed and we make 15% less than we might.

My dad had cancer, and I was there when the doctor very pointedly told us that he could have all the drugs he wanted.

It was very clear he was telling us that when my dad was ready, or when we thought he was ready to go, we should be ready to turn that drip up.

I was very selfish in that moment and just thanked God that I didn't have to make that decision. I'm glad my mom was there for him and I trust that whatever decision she made, it was the right one.

Jason207

I remember a very early lesson about how child and spousal abuse wasn't real, because a husband owns his wife and children, and just like we wouldn't break our toys, a husband would never hurt his wife and kids.

And I remember it now because my only thought was "I break all my toys..."

Jason207

When I describe my experiences growing up in the Baptist Church and what they believe, people refuse to believe it and insist I'm lying to make them look bad.

We need to show people that this shit is part of the Christian mainstream.

We went to a nice sushi place with a Japanese friend and sat at the chefs counter, he told us what to eat (we could obv say no) and how to eat it.

Best sushi experience of my life. Also the most expensive (but worth it.)

They had to change the way our passes worked because people would steal credit cards and then buy a big stack of monthly bus/train passes and sell those for cash.
