Well something I came to learn with the first of the No King’s protests is that in many major cities there is a CAP to the amount of people allowed to be demonstrating in x radius for the more easily attainable permits that don’t have to be submitted months in advance.

So no matter how peaceful the protest and no matter how much space every person had, with adequate “exit routes” through side streets, a protest can get shut down just for the sheer number of people who decide to show up….and effectively making those incredible drone shots of miles of protestors unattainable, masking the amount of people who actually would have shown up (in my city there’s often several locations for protests that are just far away enough to get the permits). But still yeah….bureaucracy really dictating exactly how much protesting protestors are “allowed” to do ugh

I mean…I’m not saying protesting is pointless, and I actively attend all the No Kings protests and Free Palestine demonstrations that I can in my city.

What I’m saying is, I haven’t really seen any direct change (or honestly…much INDIRECT change) as a result of protesting in the US, at least since trumps first term. Certainly nothing at the national/federal level.

I think the protests are good as a visual representation of mass upset, but the fascist regime certainly dgaf what the people think (hell, they’ve been fucking over the own voter base from the start of trumps second term—they don’t even care about appealing to MAGA voters anymore now that they’re back in)…

…and the few things the VERY few politicians with guts & scruples have stood up for and gotten done, I believe they would have been doing regardless of national protests (ie. Thomas Massie & Ted Lieu and the Epstein files, or just about everything AOC & Bernie sanders have ever done or tried to do)

None of our federal government and depending on where you live, very little to none of our state government seems to REALLY give a shit how individual private citizens feel at large. Or seem willing or capable to FO anything about anything regardless.

So yeah, I’m not saying protesting
is pointless—in fact, I think the best thing about the No Kings protests, especially the ones in red or purple states, are showing us ALL how many people actually deeply, deeply oppose Trump (and that’s just the ones who were able to get to the location and spend their day protesting).

My hope is that it will help us all be way more discerning—and hold politicians WAY more accountable—in accepting voting results, both for the midterms and the 2028 presidential election.

(It’s still WILD to me, and so many others, how the statistically near IMPOSSIBLE 2024 results received virtually no pushback, ESPECIALLY considering the wild amount of data all pointing to “the official results are NOT reflective of the actual votes”…… ugh)
