But that isn’t positive discrimination. The positive discrimination would be employing a disabled person just because they’re disabled, regardless of whether they were the best applicant. If the disabled person is the best candidate for the job, and you employ them, then yes you ought to make reasonable adjustments for them because it will allow them to do the job you’re paying them for, and they will not have to face the indignity they would otherwise face on a daily basis at their workplace. And, to be honest, “reasonable adjustments” usually aren’t that complicated or expensive. It doesn’t always mean wheelchair ramps, handrails, swinging doors, etc. it can sometimes just mean starting work a bit earlier or later; it could be having a workspace on the ground floor; attending meetings via webcam; give them a dedicated parking space; etc.
