Same! Constantly under a microscope is spot on. I'm at my 3rd school in 10 years. After a few years at my other schools i start feeling fed up and wanting to leave. Then I try to leave the profession but no where will hire me other than teaching jobs. I'm a little over 2 years in at this school and I'm fed up again! Constantly dissected and criticized. I wonder how some stay in this profession for 10, 20, 30 years! I tried very hard to go into instructional design. I got an instructional design certificate and even an interview, but no bites. I went into this career in my early 20s thinking I can always change my mind. I even got a masters in Mathematics. To no avail, I'm literally stuck. Turns out teachers are leaving in droves and saturating the job market, and no one wants to hire them anyway.

Yes thank you for clarifying. I also think a certain level of "complaining" is healthy, no? Though the problem is when the complaining has an audience, which doesn't usually occur to me as being more embarrassing for some reason. I might just be a little emotionally stunted in that regard. Being embarrassed is not normally a thing for me because anything anyone could say to me I've already thought about myself. I only feel embarrassed from this interaction because of how strongly/angrily she reacted. But more hurt than embarrassed

I don't get it, I'm emotionally stunted because I didn't say "don't talk about that here"? I guess so, but it hadnt occured to me for whatever reason. It's the part of being always "on" and always saying and doing the right thing that gets to me. I will fuck up like i did in this instance. But I've learned to say it going forward, and also learned that a job where you're always "on" is not for me

I'm so used to students, admin, and parents so openly criticize and dissect me, my flaws, and my insecurities all the time. It hardly hurts my feelings anymore. That is why I'm surprised it hurt her feelings. I thought it happened to everyone all the time, and we all accepted that. Coworkers admin and students have told me "so and so said your lesson was weird and confusing yesterday." And I'll just be like "dang, I know, I tried something new and it didn't work lol!" I wouldn't think to react like "how dare you tell me that?!" I shouldn't have said it in the first place but I was following their lead in a way... like how they've said it to me or each other so many times before

An old friend of mine became a therapist and let me tell you, that girl was a nutjob. People unknowingly paying a 20-something year old questionable party girl for precious life advice was kinda funny but mostly sad.

I relate to this so bad. Traveling with my husband's family is just like this. I'm hungry and quietly begging my husband that we stop for food while his family is OK surviving on hot black coffee till dinner time. They're not super thin either I just don't get it

July9044

My two kids have never done this but a toddler I babysitted years ago did. I went to get her from her nap and it was smeared everywhere. She's in college now, I heard she is doing well

July9044

They'd have to go to the mainland, otherwise they could be procreating in Alaska which is not in the yellow zone

July9044

Doesn't look that sad

Thank you for sharing this! You have also gave me a new appreciation for Monet. You're right, having them all together like that really enhances the experience.

And bad use of everyone else's time

Yes this happened to me multiple times since having my house listed this year. It's frustrating. I took my house off the market after 4 months of this bs.

When we were looking for houses we saw about 10 places over the course of 3 days and picked one. We didn't look at places just to browse around. We did our homework on each house we saw beforehand. Most buyers are not this intentional and seemingly like wasting everyone's time!

July9044

I can relate to your comment because my kids just had frozen chicken nuggest and cherry tomatoes last night lol

You just gave me an appreciation for this painting that I did not have when I first looked through them. Very cool. Thanks!

I'm sooooooooo jealous!! I am a teacher and tried moving to NJ last year. Interviewed at a couple schools. It didn't work out and I am still here in FL. I want to move to NJ so bad but the stars just aren't aligning.

That is a tough one! My 6 year olds "best friend" is a mean girl too. But I'm good friends with the mom so it's a struggle for me too. I often talk to my daughter about the hurtful behaviors this friend does so that my daughter is prepared before we see them. After we hang out with her friend we'll talk about anything that might have made her uncomfortable. So far it seems to be working. I feel bad for this mom friend because she's the sweetest woman and knows her daughter can be mean, and tries everything to stop it.

This is very depndent on the admin of the school and age of students. I previously worked at a school for 4 years . The first two years there was one principal who thought I was great. Gave me the best reviews. He left and a new principal came who seemed to despise the ground I walk on. She eventually forced me to quit by consistently marking me low, berating me (she once said "if you parent how you teach i'm worried for your kids" when I was a new mom), and downgrading my classes. Her advice was also out of touch, for example I let a frequently disruptive student with an extensive IEP use headphones so I could teach the rest of the class and she wrote me up for it. I left that school and now I'm in year 3 at a school that seems to like me. I do get criticisms and advice at this school but I respect and trust them so I adapt my methods to the school's needs and culture. I use my students in my math examples all the time and the principal observed me once saying it made the lesson more engaging, so idk. Depends heavily on the school and if they "like" you or not. If she wasn't being condescending, I'd say adapt your methods and move on. What you said doesn't sound too terrible but I know my *very* sensitive 6 year old would probably not like it

July9044

I could've wrote this! I was so clueless. I was a math major in college until about year 3 I panicked and thought what the heck am I supposed to do with a math degree?! So I switched to math education because it would add the least amount of time for me to graduate and it was a straight pipeline from graduating to getting a job. That was 14 years ago. I've since tried to leave teaching twice, getting office jobs one at an insurance office and one at my university, but I got paid less and had to work year round so I came back to high school teaching. I have no clue how to get an office job that pays more outside of education. I have friends with WFH office jobs making amazing money, traveling, growing their families, who don't even have their masters, and here I am with a masters struggling on my 60k salary. I question my life choices every day. But I actually like my current job so I'm fine but the money is NOT IT

July9044

>What flexibility in teaching?

I think OP meant that you are more hirable and can work where you want, teach most levels including advanced placement, transfer certification to another state or county, and work at the district level or in edTech. I got a Masters for that same reason. I'm still a classroom teacher but don't feel stuck here like I did when i had a bachelor's

Such a beautiful home! I'd buy it but I'm not in tallahassee

I have 2 girls and I love it! I only had a brother growing up and we could never get that close, and as adults we do not talk. I had wished for a sister and was envious of the bond others had with their sisters. Now my kids, 6 and 3, are the best of friends. They are also girly girls, though I promise I did not push them in that direction. Taking them to Disney in their princess dresses was a sweet experience. I would have a third if I knew it would be a girl.

I know gender shouldn't matter but to some people it does. I have a cousin who has two boys but really wanted girls. She has told family members she can't be close with me anymore because she feels hurt seeing my two girls.

Week 3?? I ovulate around the 10-12th day of my cycles

July9044

Cold stone 1000%. You can get most Ben and Jerry's flavors at the store. Coldstones you can control the amount of treats in your Ice cream. And their brownie mix in is soooo good

July9044

Yes and it also teaches them that they can look to others for comfort. For example if my kid falls and gets hurt and her aunt is right there, I let her aunt be the one to comfort her. Especially if OP is planning on another kid, she should start building her village now because it is NOT when two kids learn to depend only on their mom

July9044

The title seems like ragebait. If you know your pet has health issues that will only progressively get worse, and/or lead to a medical emergency, why would you let them suffer? Animals can't speak and tell us what's hurting them and they try to hide it. It is always, always better two weeks early than a day too late
