Yep, basically. I was at the Herzog protest. Every instance of violence I saw was from police, and all completely unnecessary. The Special Moustache Unit was there in force with abundant Small Man Energy. And then we got to watch Chris Minns, the police, and the media lie about it all on TV. All so a genocidal war criminal didn't have to hear chants. Yay!

Yeah exactly. The "just make a good game" crowd always misses this, and it feels like there's a lack of understanding about curation algorithms. There were problems with curation (that platforms like Steam openly acknowledged) even before AI. A great game, just like any other form of content be it video/article/etc, doesn't always find its audience.

Marketing can be scary but promoting the idea that it's unnecessary is irresponsible.

Yeah that's a good write-up, agree completely. I'd add to your point as well about the type of pvp that ER or DS players enjoy, which are usually 1v1 duels or world invasion chases, that this type of chaotic third-partying battle royale doesn't fit into that. Even in world invasions there were usually "teams". But this is more akin to Apex, PubG, etc, where you just have to get comfortable with someone coming along and playing like a rat while you do an objective. I was a bit turned off DB after my first final fight was just people trying to run away and hide.

Same, I left pretty underwhelmed. I'm not really looking for another game where I get third partied all the time. And there are some jank elements of SoulsRing that they seemed to think were okay to just bring into a pvp game, like the lock-on system. Had planned to devote the whole weekend to it, ended up switching off before the 4 hour period ended.

NSW (Syd) -- IIRC they used to gather at that Spawn Point gaming bar in the CBD (was a bit like our version of Mana Bar), but that place has closed down now. Not sure where it moved to.

Haha I had a similar progression in Windrose... The questing and combat was fun, but also found myself looking forward to the downtime travelling from A to B because of the shanties. Delaying exiting the ship just so the song could finish. Then found myself loading up the songs in real life.

Jealous! I don't think Seán will be down here in Aus anytime soon, but I know of a local guy who leads the singing in pubs, might check that out.

I first came across it in Windrose, I really dig it! Super cool how some of the new stuff in Black Flag Resynced is based on folk music of different cultures as well.

To be fair, with or without the relic, taking damage *does* cause death buildup.

Same, I had always put it in a category in my mind of "does 2D and does it well", which is why I chose it for quick prototyping of 2D stuff.

That's good info, thank you. Does the labour distribution there suggest that 3D is not really the priority that the marketing suggests it is?
