You just wait til installing a neuralink will be mandatory so they could steal your ideas.

Swords are essentially just spears, but with a very long blade and a very short handle.

The stirrup myth has been thoroughly debunked, you don't need stirrups to couch a lance, there's an article where they tested this, apparently you don't even need a saddle even, all that matters is the rider's skill. But both the saddle and the stirrups do make it easier.

Claude, clone this and release on steam before that guy

considering the quality of steel available in Japan
I don't get that part, everyone is so confidently saying this as if I'm the only one who didn't get the metallography report in his mail. From what I've seen it's been the same forged damascus steel and wrought iron used everywhere else.
Justaniceman
I don't know what everyone in the comments are smoking, this is atrocious.

I usually scroll past most designs here, but this one's actually good.

Like others said there's no straight up analogue, but if I had to place it somewhere, it would be a variation of great helm, because of the closed construction and shape so big it rests on the shoulders. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this was actually made at some point, because the idea that the helmet is going for is exactly the kind of optimization made for fighting on foot in tournaments.
Justaniceman
5 foot and 10 pounds doesn't sound like a good tradeoff. You could get a halberd that would be longer and lighter, a zweihander that would be longer and lighter, a poleaxe of the same length and smaller weight.
The reality is that something this long and heavy would leave you gassed out in 10-20 swings, depending on how fit you are. But you are not lasting through a battle with that thing. Don't believe me, test it out, go outside and make 10 good swings, you'll see for yourself.

Ignoring that it's not even made out of hardened steel, the shape is sub-optimal, specifically the face-plate is too flat, meaning you're very vulnerable to a couched lance aimed at your face, plus no effort was made to make sure the point slides away from the openings, like is usually done in better helmets with the addition of raised ridges.
You might argue that it's an infantry helmet and therefore it shouldn't be concerned about getting lanced in the face. Fine, but even if we try to aim lower and compete for the "best infantry helmet" title then even here late middle ages give us better designs, such as bascinets with a multitude variations of perforated visors that offer you better protection with better visibility and breathability, on top of being shaped in different styles.
The barbute was never the most popular choice for the same reasons the corinthian helmet wouldn't be.
Justaniceman
That's not the case though, it's yet another myth, similar to katana superiority that was rampant a decade or two ago. The reality is a tad more complex, but to simplify, sword has definitely earned the romantization.
Justaniceman
The metal parts are great. The handle wrap however... what exactly is that?

The problem is that there is genuinely a chance that a good game can stay unnoticed for quite some time, I firmly believe it will get its recognition eventually, the only question is how fast. That fact alone gives lots of devs the delusion that their game might be just that case.
So the real question is just how much time are you willing to spend on marketing before you move on to the next title.
Justaniceman
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you were tricked into programming with colorful icons and white noodles, but that's just a graphical interface over code. You might be art-minded, but you also proved you can program too.
Justaniceman
It's kinda ironic that this is the first thread I saw there.

Most women won't play a game where female characters are sexualized
What makes you so sure? Women can be attracted to other women as well, you know.
Justaniceman
Why would you deliberately make characters less sexy? Politics aside, it's just a fact that sex sells.
Justaniceman
Those helmets aren't just different in style, they have different function. You notice how some have more perforation and some less? Those intended to be used on foot usually have more perforation for greater visibility and breathability, because you're not worried about a lance being driven into your face at full gallop.
There's a grand bascinet there somewhere and it makes you impervious to bludgeoning strikes by resting on your shoulders thanks to the fixed neck defense, but it also means you can't turn your head around.
Sugarloaf helmet is just plain worse than any newer helmets due to flatter face plate geometry and the worse construction method because metallurgy back then didn't allow for a big lump of steel to hammer out the shape from in one piece, they had to rivet several smaller plates together.
And then there's a footman's sallet which was basically the cheapest way to make a helmet. Don't let the cool flames fool you, it's only slightly better than not having a helmet at all.

Im a diehard Morrowind fan, if your game doesn't feature giant mushroom trees then I'm out.

I remember how happy I was with a crudely made wooden sword my dad made. If he gave me something like that I'd make a shrine for it and worship it until my late teens.

Something feels really off about combat, it feels fake and plastic, I can't put my finger on exactly why, but I think enemies lighting up in red and having healthbars above them gives it a mobile game feeling. Plus an enemy getting stunned from a block feels cheap. If your goal is a visceral first person combat feeling then you're way off the mark. It feels more like I'm playing a top down mobile game but somehow the camera is first person.

Get better at marketing or get money.

Ngl the more I work in UE5 the more I wonder if I should just switch to UE4
