I brush both my cat's teeth. Since they don't like it, I alternate which one I brush everyday

My hospital never accepts a single bag containing samples from 2 different patients. That's an automatic rejection. I used to think it was a silly policy, but the RNs are the reason we have to do it

I'm in the same boat. I bought a bunch of these stupid overpriced cans. 3 weeks into them and he refused to eat them. Thankfully they have a dry version (that I add a ton of water to)

Do not do it. They remove so much more than the nail. My 16 yo boy came to me front declawed and now his arthritis is so bad in his front legs. I know he's in a ton of pain. I watch him shift weight between both legs, while the weight bearing leg just trembles.
Nail trimming is not that hard. I wait for my other 2 non-declawed cats to fall asleep/be super relaxed and trim as many as I can until they get grouchy

LabCE is for after you become certified. You don't need it for the exam. Don't spend money on it now. When you need to recertify in 3 years, then you have the option to buy it, but I still wouldn't

When she does the bad behavior, don't interact with her anymore. Don't swat at her, it encourages her to keep playing. Literally, stop interacting with her. Move away. Ignore her until she calms down. I learned this early on when I got my first kittens. It's actually what cats do. I would watch them get really rough with each other and as soon as one felt it was too much they would stop and walk away. That was the sign that playtime was over. They still do this as adults.

Dude, I got 444. It doesn't mean anything for the type of tech you will be, it just means you passed.

I switched to mesh after my boy cut his nose on the wire door to his hard carrier

Husband and I just lost our 15 yo old male cat to this in December. Randomly one day I heard his nail clicking on the linoleum and was shocked to see his toe was twice the size it should be. The nail was enormous. Vet x-rayed it, was concerned that it looked cancerous. That's when I learned about the disease. We weren't that concerned because he had no other symptoms, no lung problems that we knew of. We were debating how far to take things, should we get a chest X-ray on a 15 yo cat? Should we remove the bad digit? Would it make a difference? Well, he decided for us. Not even 2 months after first noticing his toe he decided to crash. He vomited maybe 20 times in 2 hours. He was just vomiting foam by the end. Rushed him to the ER vet. He had pancreatitis, cancer in his lungs, possible GI issues. We hoped that getting some fluid into him might help, but he was done. We made the decision to put him to sleep the next day. It was the hardest thing, made worse by having to bring home an empty carrier for his brother to sniff.

I had to take 2 semesters of organic chem, biochem, and clinical lab chem
Kahlia29
Yup. Some nights I'm all of heme and blood bank. Or all of chem and micro and processing/send outs. It all depends on the size of the hospital(s) and the lab's volume

Just out of curiosity, when did the U get a union that the med techs could join? My husband is a RN there, so I know about the nurses union, but med techs didn't have a union when I was there 9 years ago
Kahlia29
I work at the AA VA and we are not currently hiring. It doesn't mean don't keep an eye out, but we are full ATM
Kahlia29
You have to pay to park and it may not even be all that close. If you work day shift you will park off-site and have to ride a bus in, so factor in an additional 30 min to your commute
Kahlia29
I worked there for 6 years. I learned an awful lot, but the pay was crap
Kahlia29
I'm sorry, no. No you will not be making $90,000 at the U of M. It's in the 70k range. I just pulled up the info
Kahlia29
Kidney bean? Do you mean the lymphs? You need to remember that the cells were happily chilling in a tube until you pipetted them up, slammed them against a glass slide at high speed, then stained them. They're going to look a little off. I don't think there's anything wrong with this slide. You have plenty of RBCs and WBCs, the stain looks good. I don't like that big guy on slide 2.

No one at my lab (or my previous lab) has been required to have that. I had to google search what it meant
Kahlia29
This week was a straw, still in the wrapper
Kahlia29
Why is your gynecologist making this decision? Speak to your PCP
Kahlia29
There's no heparin in that tube. There's a clot activator. It's supposed to form a massive clot, the lab then spins it in a centrifuge, then tests the serum
Kahlia29
I'm a med tech too! I've never seen this performed, so this was a great video

I work in a lab that performes testing on this type of sample. It doesn't smell like anything.

(Not Alinity, but general advice...) We went with flowers and honestly, I hate it. I'm not a gardener, I don't know which flower is which. Our last analyzer bundle was named after Rugrats characters and it was so much easier to remember than tulip or violet or daisy.
