There is an Afon Cegin in Sudbury in Essex according to the interactive map. Is that a mistake or has some Welsh dude been giving names to random drainage ditches on the far side of England?
KaiserMacCleg
They will maintain pedestrian access if they can, so you might be able to just hop off your bike and walk it through the closure. Give Wales & West a ring if you're concerned - they'll sort you out.

I would word it:
Canwch y gloch os nad oes ofn arnat ti!
Or perhaps something less literal:
Canwch y gloch os wyt ti'n meiddio! ("Ring the bell if you dare!")
Modrwywch y drws means something like "Put a💍on the door"

Love that shot of Anglesey Barracks. You've managed to find a very interesting angle that I've not seen before.

This is very difficult. I do believe it was written in Welsh - I can pick out some of it - but I do not believe the person singing it actually speaks Welsh, because the pronunciation is off. I've used the translated lyrics on the Dragonwilds wiki to get a head start. I do think these are accurate, because of the words I can pick out. I'll take them line by line:
The ultimate untamed wilds
The final word in the first line is definitely "dieithr", which means unfamiliar / strange / foreign; close enough to "untamed".
Rich with places untold.
The first word is definitely "cyfoethog": rich.
Like the roar of the dragon in the sky,
I'm confident this line is "Fel twrw'r ddraig yn yr awyr": literally "like the clamour of the dragon in the air"
Storms are echoing.
This is a literal translation of what I'm hearing: "Mae stormydd yn adleisio"
The tempo then picks up, making thing even more difficult.
A world of secrets and danger,
I'm not getting this at all. The first word might be "byd" (world), but if so, the singer's consonants are very airy and not distinct at all. I think there is a "peryg" (danger) in there too.
Endless opportunities, mountains and valleys,
I can pick out "mynyddoedd a dyffryniau", meaning mountains and valleys. Unfortunately, the plural form for dyffryn (valley) is incorrect. We may be dealing with a Welsh song which was not only sung by someone who doesn't speak Welsh, but written by someone who doesn't speak Welsh too, at least to any decent standard.
Painted in gold.
I can hear "paentio" (to paint), but not "aur" (gold).
Come and journey to the fresh melody.
If you say so, Dragonwilds wiki.
I'm sorry to be a downer but this is just another example of Welsh being treated as though it's some form of Elvish. If you're going to use Welsh in your soundtrack, the least you can do is treat it with the respect that it deserves and get a Welsh speaker to sing it.

I think it is hen wragedd â ffyn, but I think you've got the intended meaning the wrong way around.
I think the intended meaning is "it's raining so heavily it feels like being battered by old women with sticks". Thwacking misbehaving kids around the ears with walking sticks was once a time-honoured tradition. One which is happily now consigned to the past, I hasten to add.

You can continue on along the ridge line and come back down via the Rhosydd mine, but there are no paths once you leave the ridge line so you have to have a good sense of direction, map reading skills, and the right weather.
Wouldn't recommend it for a first hike, but if you're experienced, it's a great day out.

The dad is ex-KGB. His son, the owner, is a nepo baby. He's also a member of the House of Lords: Baron Lebedev of Hampton and Siberia. Another fine legacy of Boris Johnson's time as Prime Minister.

In the National Park, yes. But Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham and Powys will still have their own planning authorities for the areas outside of the boundary, just as Gwynedd and Conwy do for areas outside Eryri. For what benefit, exactly?
KaiserMacCleg
"Sammy, I love you more than anything else in the world. I love your eyes, your hair and your nose, your neck, your lips, your teeth and everything..."
KaiserMacCleg
Do we want to split planning responsibilities in the area? Is development such a problem in the AONB that we need a whole new planning authority to deal with it? Just seems like a needless complication.

I've watched episodes 1 & 2, good so far, same quality as S1. Poor Ianto 😂

They essentially did. They said that people have to leave their religious beliefs behind which is equivalent to saying that people have to functionally be atheists – 'people need to be free to believe in whatever stupid skydaddy they wish so long as it's kept the hell away from state, education and everything else in that vein.'
No, it's equivalent to saying that people have to functionally be secularists, which is not the same thing. State atheism has been tried in a few places over the years: notably in the USSR, where Christianity was suppressed for many years. Secularism is not atheism: it is, in essence, the maintenance of a position of neutrality on religion, avoiding the promotion or persecution of any particular denomination or belief by the state.
Exactly. that's the problem. Why should I have to lay aside all my values, ethics, and convictions as a precondition of participation in the political process?
Because secularism ensures freedom of religion. If elected officials do not check their personal religious beliefs at the door, and start favouring one sect or the other, or turning scripture into policy, you will quickly find yourself falling down the dark well of religious persecution and sectarianism. I am concerned with your freedoms as much as I am with mine, here: your freedom to believe as you do and worship as you wish is the same as my freedom to have absolutely sod all to do with religion. Lose one, and you threaten the other.
If that was all they said, then I would have had no problem. But what they said went far further than that.
I disagree.
Yes and no. We shouldn't force people to worship (or prevent them from worshipping). But governance inevitably involves placing requirements or prohibitions on people. Those who vote for such arrangements are motivated by their value, ethics, and convictions. Religious people are just as entitled to participate in that process as anyone else.
Not if it means restricting the freedoms of other people. You may recall the trouble that Tim Farron got into a few years back regarding his views on homosexuality. I personally wouldn't have much of a problem with Tim Farron being in government, because I believe that, despite his personal beliefs, he is able to separate them his policy positions. Pete Hegseth, on the other hand, can fuck right off. You do not get to restrict the freedoms of other people because your god told you so.
KaiserMacCleg
No, you set up a strawman so that you could knock it down. The person you responded to did not say that religious people should not be allowed to take part in the democratic process. They said that belief in god should be kept the hell away from the state and education, and they're absolutely right, because the moment the state starts telling people which god to believe in and how to worship it, you've lost all the religious freedoms we have built up over the centuries and are headed straight back to the sixteenth century.
Religious people should be able to go for whatever public office they want, but the moment they try to use those offices to force their personal religious beliefs on others is the moment they should lose them.
KaiserMacCleg
Separation of church and state is an important aspect of enlightenment thought, yes.
KaiserMacCleg
Ahh yes, I've found your other post on r/PlanetCoaster (link for anyone interested)
Your technique really works - it's especially convincing in the shot you've included above, which I guess is supposed to be *the* iconic view that guests get on their way into the area.
This is so creative, and really impressive. I hope you enjoy trying to fit it all together! If you do, try and get Channel5 Gaming or someone to do a park spotlight on Youtube - it deserves the attention!

This looks insane, Rivendell in particular. How much of the sense of scale in that sceenshot is forced perspective? Surely it's not a 1:1 scale build?
I presume each location is a separate park?

I occasionally say su'mae to people while out walking, knowing full well they are likely to be English. Proper rebel, me.

I can only imagine that it's a transcription error, then. "Y dawr her lweep" means nothing at all and all the attempts to make some sense of it in these comments are pretty big stretches.
If you have pictures of the original written letters, you might have more luck.

Diolch am yr ymateb o ffan fawr! Rwy'n wyrdd â chenfigen; dwi wedi breuddwydio am gyfieithu Tolkien fy hun am hir oes, ond sgen i ddim y meistrolaeth o'r iaith sydd ei angen, na'r dyfalbarhad i gyflawni prosiect mor enfawr. Mae nitpickio yn lot haws! 😂
Teimlaf yn bersonol bod tarddiad y geiriau a ddefnyddiwyd yn bwysig iawn, gan ystyried hanes Tolkien fel ieithegydd, felly 'swn i'n tueddu tuag at cyfieithiad mwy uniongyrchol. Beth wyt ti'n meddwl am gwmnïaeth? I fi, mae'n dwyn i gof cwmni ffrindiau agos. Ond falle cwmnïau capitalistaidd i rai eraill?
Ond o ddifri wan, pob lwc efo'r prosiect. Dwi wir yn edrych ymlaen i weld y canlyniad.

Star Wars Episode X looks shit.

There are mountains out there somewhere, named the Orocarni, or Red Mountains, by the Elves. Personally I've always envisioned them as being a lot further east than this, though.
Well yeah but you wouldn't expect to find the modern Welsh spelling "afon" in England. I think it's a mistake - there is an Afon Cegin in Bangor.
Although come to think of it...why aren't the various River Avons classified together with "afon"?
