For recruiting you can be covering a broad area - but if you have a family and care about public schools, you probably want to come be in Howard county.

I would hop on Redfin and look at Columbia, Ellicott City, and Elkridge. Elkridge will be the most affordable.

Columbia is extremely family focused, lots of family activities, lots of outdoor spaces, lots of playgrounds - and again, the county schools are excellent. Routinely one of the better counties in the nation; our public school budget is over a billion.
