Hence, a Windows exploit will be useless on Ubuntu.
I really wish people would stop saying things like this. You can't say that while knowing nothing about the malware or how the user is interacting with it. For all you know, they could have Wine, Mono, etc. installed (assuming it's just a plain Windows binary).

stupid people
The main thing that's good about react is that it's not angular
No sir, you cannot call people stupid and then immediately demonstrate such a high levels of ignorance!

... when your day job is in Rust ... So naturally, when thinking about a subject, how it relates to Rust is going to be the first thing that comes up
Why don't we hear more about these things that are being worked on?
I go to http://blog.rust-lang.org/ and there's hardly anything there that's not about a new release
https://www.rust-lang.org/ has A simple integer calculator which is cool, it shows off rust's pattern matching (i guessed this because of my existing, minimal, familiarity with rust). write something about it.
Hell, to pick on that very page a little it see
This code is editable and runnable!
which doesn't mean anything. if i wasn't already familiar with play.golang.org i'd probably assume that meant that i can copy the code into my editor and compile and run it, and at that point (long before i even noticed the Run button) i'm just wondering what kinda retard wrote that comment there. a simple link to show off the rust playground? would be good
And at a Reddit comment or blog post length, you don't really have the time to explain things from scratch
I don't think you need to go to such great lengths. I mean, for most things, if it's so complicated that you need to write an essay about it then you should ask yourself how good and necessary the idea was in the first place. To give you an idea of what I mean in Go. Go has channels and goroutines. You can demonstrate these features without bringing up any other language or going into great detail simply by talking about something silly like making requests to 2 other servers and responding to your client with the first one that returns. You can talk about how you can do this all day without needing to worry too much about how many threads you're starting or some complicated threading library or thread pools, etc.
I go out of my way in docs to try not to compare Rust to any other language
that's good, but to clarify: I don't think it's a big deal to compare to something else as long as you don't go out of your way to show how bad the other thing is.
Just a few days ago, https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/3imyxd/lockfreedom_without_garbage_collection/
that's a great example. post more!

Rust is pretty new as far as using it goes. It's been stable for half a year -- not nearly long enough for any major applications to come out.
(perhaps great was the wrong word, I meant good, cool, etc.)
Why does it have to be a major thing? can't you just tell me about this 1 cool feature of the language and what problem it solves?
Now that I think about it, servo is actually a poor example to show off the language because it's too big. I look at it and all I see is a black box. A good thing to talk about would be how it achieves performance (I assume) through immutability and parallelism and how the language enables this. I don't think you even need to talk about servo to share something like that.
We might see some interesting things start coming out next year.
next year when the next new language comes out and everyone who was playing with rust just for the curiosity moves on to something else?
If you hang around on /r/rust...
that's part of the issue I think. Speaking generally, if I was already familiar with rust enough to hang out there, then I wouldn't care that no one outside of /r/rust talked about it. I probably wouldn't even notice.

I feel insulted that you'd even respond to me. Nothing you've said makes any sense in this context. FYI: I was there when D1, D2 and phobos and tango was a thing. There's a reason why I don't program in D anymore or associate with its communty and you're a great example of that. You don't get to talk shit to me about D, maturity, confusion and mess.
Kitty_Cow
Sorry for going off topic, but I feel like it's about time I say something.
So... for the last few months I've noticed that any time I see anything said by pcwalton, it was in response to some other language than rust. And for a while I just thought it was strange, and just ignored it.
Now with this post, I'm starting to wonder if rust is heading the way of D i.e. what I can only describe as "me too" syndrome.
Am I imagining this? how comes I hardly see anything about rust that isn't in comparison to something else. Why don't I hear about the great things being built with rust that's not servo. I assume they exist but the only interesting thing I can even remember right now is https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/3hu2wu/safe_convenient_and_fast_opengl_rusts_glium/

I'm just going to assume you're trolling - nice one :) ...

O_o
You can run code concurrently in Javascript, therefore all these things are possible

Open sourcing all their code proves literally nothing if we can't see the code that they're actually running.

To be is to be percieved, and so to know thyself is only possible through the eyes of the other... The nature of our immortal lives is in the consequences of our words and deeds, that go and impressionate themselves throughout all time... ... Our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we're bound to others... Past and present... And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future...

I wish you'd just say what you're trying to say instead of whatever mind-game this is... If I were to guess, I'd say you're talking about extensions? Have you written a Firefox extension? it's already a bloated mess of legacy apis. Adding more to support more optional features isn't going to make it better. You'd also be ignoring the additional complexity and maintenance burden involved in supporting these optional features while keeping the browser as secure and stable as possible. If something becomes optional, then every other feature that depends on, or interacts with it must now be able to handle its presence or absence. In fact, it gets worse, because every other feature that benefits from its existence indirectly is likely going to need to handle the case when it doesn't exist and we haven't even begun talking about security, stability or whether the feature was necessary in the first place.
I was going to illustrate that last point here with something about a hive of bees, a face and an optional cage wherein the alternative would be to get rid of the bees (feature) altogether but I couldn't quite make it work
Kitty_Cow
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make but you make it sound like the Tor Browser project is going to end because some useful apis get removed... because XUL and XPCOM are these magical things that are absolutely necessary. That doesn't make any sense to me especially in this context, so...
OT: I vaguely remember talk from years ago (previous decade) when researching GUI toolkits about the possibility of deprecating or even getting rid of these legacy stuff so I'm kinda surprised they've survived this long.
Kitty_Cow
I really mean a fork with no bloats, no bullshits
I don't think such a browser can exist. One man's feature is another man's bloat and vice versa.
and optimized for privacy by default.
You might have to squint a little to see it, but I think this already exists: https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en
Many (all?) of the bloat has been removed and many of the settings fixed by people who seem to know what they're doing (let's face it, most of us don't know what the settings in about:config really mean and they're poorly documented). If you don't want to use the Tor network all you have to do is disable the proxy and use the Tor browser on its own.
Kitty_Cow
I wasn't arguing with you. I was straight-up telling you to stop with your nonsense.
Kitty_Cow
I know this might sound harsh but to me, it sounds like the candidate dodged a bullet there (assuming these BS reasons for the rejection are true).
I'm only half-joking... but someone who calls themselves a Principal Engineer/UI Architect sounds like a designer to me. Why not call yourself that. And who decided it was a good idea to put you in charge of what I assume were programming interviews.
Kitty_Cow
You're clearly not a programmer and obviously don't know what you're talking about so just stop!
Kitty_Cow
IMO, in this context native doesn't really mean anything. The game is running natively whether it was ported with SDL, eON, Wine.., whatever. It's not like there's some kind of emulator or virtual machine involved.
OT: I find it funny that the idiots that spew the most VP hate usually clearly don't know what they're talking about.
