Water. Water. Cardio, just go for a walk. Water. Sleep all 8-hours.

Anything over 300mg week and I have to take a half an Arimidex every two weeks.

No. Fuck no. No. Do not send the money, man.

I always wonder if like new grads aim for the MIT style or the Chicago style firms when applying to new gigs.

I will take this dog if you decide you don’t want it. DM me. I will also come to get her. I have an 12 month old girl I want a sister/brother for.

You have to have some kind of papers, or know enough that I feel good about her… but more than likely - I’ll take her if you decide you don’t want to live the Malinois life.

Make no mistake, if you do keep her, your life is about to change… and the next few months are the easiest of the year. Be ready. Haha.

Also, it’s a lot of fun. They’re absolutely amazing dogs.

You’re going to need to train her not to do it. We have a female Malinois that also is an avid hunter… but we live in a suburban area of a major city.

We let her chase squirrels. She’s caught a few, but they always get away from her before she knows what to do. She used to kill lizards - like weekly - we stopped letting her pounce or chase them until it stopped, now she just toys with them or ignores them.

She somehow has dug up two living moles from a foot below the earth. No fucking clue how she hears or smells them, but she was stopped before she could do much harm. Then, she saw one running and she, unfortunately, either seriously injured or killed it. She’s was banned from digging for them ir chasing them… and now she kind of just ignores them or chases and corners… leaves them alone.

She somehow swatted down a bird. I don’t even know how. It was so fast. I stopped her from hurting the bird, she just let it be. She chases birds, but like she’s not “hunting” them anymore. We have a strict rule about chasing crows - it’s not allowed, at all. They’re too smart and she just lets them be - no chase at all. Interest, but no chasing.

She is still sometimes like “alert aggressive” around a few dogs or cats, but it’s never like genuine aggression. I usually force her through a shitload of patience to confront them or see them closer. Force her to sit. Let her bark or whatever… and she realizes they’re not threats she lets it go.

You have to like take it step by step. If you’re letting her off lead… and you have recall down like that (congrats) you gotta muzzle the girl. It fucking sucks, but you can’t have your dog killing animals. If she’s on lead, turn it into training and control her. Be patient. Teach her.

I’m a big believer that our dogs… they aren’t normal. Malinois aren’t like normal - they’re fucking so far from normal. She’s a rockstar at home and outside now. It just took us time… and I really push the whole “let the dog be a dog” thing. She’s allowed to chase and run and climb… but the moment it gets even close to risky - it’s over and she’s on lead in those scenarios for training through the issue. If I have any doubts - she’s on lead.

We had a super scary incident (she is now 11 months old) where she’s been chasing and barking super aggressively at large trucks - semis, delivery, etc. Weirdly enough, it’s the hardest thing to teach out of her, and she got free. She was on lead one day in the park and moved so fast the lead slipped from my hand and she nearly died. The carabiner broke because her long line got caught under the tire or the semi and she was moving so fast it snapped in two. She blew through stim on the ecollar AND continuous boost. I didn’t chase but my God I wanted to. This was a few weeks ago. Anyway, she got lucky and wasn’t hurt. A fluke. A fucking miracle.

Now, everyday is lead only and wrapped in my hand. If a big truck approaches or I hear it… she’s made to sit and the ecollar is loaded. She will not chase one ever again - ever - if I can help it.

I’m just using this as an example, one time is on us. We made a mistake. Two times is negligence on our end. Don’t let it happen. Leash. Muzzle. Train it out of her - she will be happier, anyway.

I guess I agree. This isn’t the sub for it.

Congratulations on the decision! Obviously, read the Rust book… but more importantly, get into some codebases.

Clone a project - fool around. Run their test suite. Run their checks. Investigate their CI pipe, build-scripts, etc. Check their config files. Look at their manifest (Cargo.toml) and get a feel for what’s in there - check what the crates do on GitHub/crates.io. Now do this across a handful of other repos.

This gives you an immediate grasp of a workspace and the ability to spot things that are alike - what crates do they all consume, for example. Your job here is to learn why they’re all using those crates.

Clone those crates. Look around. Read the comments and rustdocs. Get a feel for it.

You’re not going to understand a whole lot, but you’re going to understand the basics of the workspace and crate - this is going to help a lot (on top of the Rust book).

At this point, build your own. Keep it simple. Build a clone of something. Use AI to teach you at this stage. You’re allowed to use the tools available - anything else is just not an efficient use of your time and you only get one life… don’t waste it.

When you write shit code, have the model explain WHY it’s shit… try to really understand it. I wouldn’t beat yourself up trying to learn every semantic rule or whatever else… think about how you can use Rust’s strengths to do things better than they’re already done elsewhere and go write that code.

Follow a few top tier Rust devs on X, Reddit. Read the blogs. I remember reading the release notes for new Cargo and Rust releases… it just sent me hunting for why they’ve done this or that. Over time, I learned a shitload just satisfying my curiosity. You also get a feel for the release cadence and channels, the tooling and builds this way.

Rust is the most important programming language on the planet right now, IMO. I genuinely believe it has the capacity to change the world of software in the right hands. It’s such a fucking cool time to be a Rust dev, too.

The amount of intellectual power in this community is just unbelievable at times. Find a niche you’re into and track it - maybe that’s reverse engineering or embedded systems or cryptography - Rust is going to shape all of it going forward.

You’re in for a fucking treat, op. Enjoy. It’s so much fun. Haha.

Lift heavy, but lift smart. Tendons need time to catch up. Establish a clean eating lifestyle that you actually enjoy - it makes life and health so much easier. Follow a plan… it’s always easier to follow a plan when you feel like taking a nap instead of going to the gym.

Develop healthy competition with yourself or like motivation for staying healthy. This is a huge unlock. Ultimately, consistency > perfection every single time. That dude that is jacked and quiet? The one racking the lazy gym goers weights without comment? Chase him, metaphorically.

Boys, especially teenagers or early twenty somethings… be a good one. Rise above the kid shit. Act like an adult in the gym. Focus on your workout. Give the women room; let them breathe and show them respect. If they’re stunners and you’ve got a set… tell them they’re killing it. Introduce yourself. Be a gentleman and then go on with your life. Do not shit where you eat. Don’t be the guy who talks to every woman (or girl, in your case) in the gym. You’ll look like and feel like a tool.

Get out of the gym sometimes! Go run with you dog. Go swim in the ocean or lake. Go play pickup basketball or work in the garden. It makes life worth more.

Yes, but the work lies in turning them “on” for sport just as much as “off” for home.

Our Mal is 11 months old. Exhibits every positive trait you’d imagine for a Malinois. She’s insanely smart - so much so that she “games” just about anything she can. If we make a mistake, she capitalizes on it. Every. Single. Time.

She’s the most aware dog I’ve ever been around. We got her accumulated to the house quickly. She’s peed inside once, on her second day with us, out of over excitement. Crate trained. Sits at thresholds without going outside. Sits to eat and waits. Listens so well inside; she’s about 50-50 outside.

Just started e-collar training last week or two after acclimating for a few weeks without use.

The hard part wasn’t any of the above. She just fucking “got” it. The hard part is teaching her to let her power and speed go. Teaching her to drive. Inside, she is a machine. Outside in the field - when she’s into it - she’s a machine… but getting her there is not just like luck.

There is real training involved to get a good dog to feel “free” to run, jump, etc. She will lock onto a decoy I use and it’s like she’s a fucking professionally trained dog… if she’s bored, though? She’ll hit it and take it for a walk. Toss it to the side and try to dig up gophers or fucking moles instead. She’s dug up actual, living miles that were invisible to us… she smelled them and dug a foot deep in a public park - twice - to pull out a mole she plays with and then gets bored of.

She is starting to want to climb… but it only happens when she’s like into it. If a squirrel is in the tree taunting her… she’s going to try to get up the tree. If I try to teach her… nah, she’s bored. Takes the treat and starts stalking a moving blade of grass.

I think we see shit on social media and assume they’re automatically the other way around - these rockets of violence we have to tame inside… it’s not the case, not for us.

I mean, she barks and stand off other dogs or humans if she’s with my girlfriend… not so much with me. She’s more lax. She watches the doors, moves on any weird noise, etc. Jumps. Hangs. Whatever… but we aren’t professionals.

So training that sport stuff isn’t in the wheelhouse… and we’ve got her as a home dog. A protection dog, sure, and we’re thinking about maybe enrolling her into a program so she’s a little more “official protection” dog against her natural instinct… but we aren’t sure.

I guess what I’m saying is… yeah, it is possible. I really see it. It would work. I just think the sport part is probably the more challenging of the two to teach. Our dog wants to work, but her work is chasing and hunting squirrels; chasing the ball or racing me through the park. She wants to rip her toys to pieces and then find a shady spot under a tree.

Mals are great dogs. You just have to get a Mal… not the shit you see online. Do NOT look past a shelter nowadays, either. It’s a massive problem… good Mal’s people either get and don’t realize are a TON of work - we walk about 3 miles a day with her and that’s just a normal day - or Mal’s they get an expect them to be $250,000 service trained protection dogs… but they want to just watch birds from the window. It’s more training and patience.

If you want, foster a shelter Mal, get a DNA test. Or, find a breeder that’s breeding working dogs… but know that even the fearless puppies that are high drive, food and prey driven dogs (my own) need real world, professional, sport training consistency with very little fuck ups. It’s a full time thing. Actually, it’s like your life at that point.

Looks like a GSD pup in need of a lot of love. The coat, the width of the snout, etc.; who knows though?

I’ve honestly felt this coming. Twitter sentiment the last few months pointed here, too. I pivoted to PQC in rscrypto because it has started to feel mandatory.

As an amateur cryptographer (decades of practical experience; no degree) I’ve seen enough to indicate that someone, somewhere has seen enough to illustrate the need across all gov stacks.

I’m kind of shocked to see 2027, though.

My 11 month old girl goes out at 6AM; 10AM; 1 PM; 5PM; 7PM… and sometimes if she’s just being a dick… at like 12PM after she’s been in her crate for 2 hours in bed.

This is everyday. It’s fucking insane… then she plays with the ball inside all day long.

Damn, this is great! I’ve implemented AEGIS in Rust at rscrypto and I’m excited to have an official standard to base against!

Hey, cargo rail surface (v0.28.1) does this really well. Open any issues you have!

This is so important for the community to understand. We have so few third spaces - it’s one of the things that makes Orlando kind of suck. This is only making it worse.

I think the biggest thing for the door is just consistency. We make our 11 month old girl sit at any exterior door before going outside. We use “break” as her free command. It sets the tone for our walk - but it doesn’t last long. Haha. Same for food. She sits, waits, breaks when we tell her.

We let her get through her first heat and just got her an ecollar. She’s had it about 2 weeks and used it once a few days ago to find her working level, started training on it today. We’re hoping that, if we are consistent and use it well, it will solve her jumping on people, chasing motorcycles and tractor trailers/semis. She also still pulls bad towards other dogs like half the time.

Just be consistent. Also, try to work her for an hour a day. Anything. This will help a lot. Our puppy settled once we gave her a stick to carry or a ball to fetch, return, sit, reward, start over for a half an hour 2x a day. We used to just walk her and she was fucking losing her mind.

I use a green bumper/decoy, but not my gf. Just me, to teach “out” and to bite and hold a toy. It’s NOT bite work. It’s teaching her to play in a way she’s getting some fun out of it. It’s helped a lot.

I notice that as soon as she gets commands, rewards, structure… she’s just a better dog.
