Patient was over 100 years old, all skin and bones, completed demented (mumbling to herself, not responsive to prompts, etc), totally contracted all four limbs, and in the fetal position. Massive pressure wound, stage 3 or 4 (I think it was 3).

Son: "Thank God we have someone new. That other nurse was an idiot, wouldn't even try. So, I want PT, OT, SPEECH, everything and the kitchen sink. In two weeks, I want her cooking for herself, driving herself, and having fucking conversations."

She was full code, too. This one got escalated to supervisors and risk management, etc. She died in front of him a week later during a dressing change (with another clinician, I wasn't there). I heard it was a bad code, son didn't handle it well.

I love wound vacs for similar reasons: adult arts and crafts.
