Monster Raving Loony Party are apparently going to put someone up too. Lots of their own supporters are telling them not to.

Also saw some post on Facebook about another candidate who looked about 14 for a party I can't remember the name of right now.

Really hoping it doesn't split the vote too much if all these keep putting candidates forward.

We just added it to the list of public transport mess ups on the trip.

Day 1 - arrived at the airport, went to the bus we had booked tickets on, only to find the timetable our tour company had given when we booked was totally wrong and the several buses we could have caught didn't exist. The next bus then broke down and we ended up taking the loss on the bus tickets and getting a taxi.

Day 2 - difficulties getting the tickets on the public transport validated. One machine did not work (even one of the locals tried and it failed) and at the other end of the bus there was no machine at all. We also found ourselves in a queue of many people later in the day struggling to get those tickets to let us through the Metro barriers. Too many tickets and different types of barrier!

Day 3 - got on the wrong bus after asking a staff member for the platform and him directing us quickly to the bus that had just pulled in. Didn't realise until the bus number went in two directions and we needed the other way. Hopped off at the first stop, google maps to find the one going the other way and back on track. Luckily we had plenty of time and had gone for an early bus as we had been warned they were not very reliable.

Then the above incident was on day 6. We also, on that same day, received a message from our tour operator while waiting for the train back, saying there was a problem with the carriage and to make alternate arrangements. But when we enquired direct with the ticket office they were oblivious and the trip back was without further incident.

All in all, we are pretty convinced that we are cursed (not helped by incompetence) when it comes to public transport in strange cities.

Almost got off the train to Naples a stop early on Monday as we hadn't realised the city had more than one station that started with Napoli in the name. Only when we realised most others were still on the train did we quickly hop back on. Phew!

It was easily rectified but could have resulted in our entire day trip being ruined/missed as well as leaving us stranded and having to make alternative arrangements to get back to Rome. Definitely a lesson in taking very great care in checking names.
