Is there anything I can do to maximize my chances of witnessing positive change for queer people in that part of the world (for both Israelis and Palestinians) during my lifespan? I'm 32 now. With so few countries on our side already, it's an enormous challenge to just walk away from another one

What specifically is driving eastern OR and WA to be grossed out by gays? The Mormons? Or just because the party platform says so?

I suspected as much and figured it was a no-go for a while. I just wasn't sure where Israel fell on the "continuum" of future gay rights possibility, as well as any theoretical future paths to acceptance. Some countries are already well on their way, whereas others have essentially no path to improvement and the best course of action is for queer people to run away and not look back.

Forgive me, but this doesn't really answer the question of whether or not the gay rights advocates have lost the battle already. Every country was very homophobic once
