What exactly do you mean by sealed commander? Like you have some packs and you have to make a commander deck out of what you get from them? That sounds like possibly the worst way to learn the game. Commander is already hard enough to learn for beginners, and then also making it so you have to construct a deck out what whatever you pull from a few packs? I would either find a new group to play with that let's you make whatever deck you want or ask the group your with if you can do something else

He might have ended up safe tonight, but he'd be at the bottom of the tribe next time, and there's no guarantee that they would even work with him once the merge happens, and he would be down a tribe member who had worked with him in a previous vote. By doing this, he's broken up an established group, kept his numbers, and earned a lot of good will with several people. Plus it's a great stamp on his resume if he makes it to the end

Game shows like survivor have a team of lawyers present at the challenge to make sure everyone is aware of the rules and that everything goes correctly. If it had been part of the challenge to get it in the bucket, they would have said something.
