Rare to take a knee since you give up field position, but if you are close enough in it happens occasionally. More common when field goals were more of a crap shoot, but kickers are much better than they used to be.

Hash marks also impact where you set up to take field goals. The play before taking a field goal determines where the ball is placed. Outside the hash marks and you set up on the closest mark. Between the hash marks and you set up in the middle of the field for a more direct kick. It's why if teams are going to kick a late field goal they will run a play that ends in the middle of the field, or simply take a knee, to make sure they can have the attempt in the middle.

I think NC also gets in with a win and a Seattle draw with the better Goal Differential. Seattle win and they are in.
