They're rights limited, they can add users, suspend them and view entry logs. That's about it.

HR has access control and they can suspend users.
If they forget, whoops.

It's just another critical CVE in a stack of many. Most of our affected servers/services weren't internet facing so that lowered the risk assessment significantly.

You can get refurbs with warranties from resellers if price is your worry. The vendor we use handles RMAs and repairs without fuss.

Started work for a new retail chain and got excited when management spread the word of a Christmas bonus. Turned out to be a $25 dollar gift card to the retail chain.
Real Jelly of the Month vibes.

It's going to be a fun time when none of the existing spreadsheets open properly anymore and everyone has to relearn to whatever office suite you decide to deploy.
Knowing accountants, they'll want Excel. Anything else will probably not fly well with everyone else at the company
MalletNGrease
Does he hate Excel too?
MalletNGrease
Yeah, cloud only. Ditched all on-prem stuff during acquisitions.
Some of it is coming back, but 95% will be cloud.

You've been a nurse for 45 years. You still need to learn to use basic computer skills and remember a password.
Computers have been around in some form for ~80 years. PCs for ~50. Age hasn't been an excuse for a long time. My grandfather, rest his soul, learned to operate a PC in his 80s so he could email us grandkids.
"Not a computer person" excuse shouldn't fly when it's part of your job to interact with them. Either learn or move on, but for whatever reason it remains OK to just blurt out. I actually made someone cry when I pointed that out and they thought they should fear for their job. HR was not pleased.
To make up for it I bought them a nice fountain pen.

SIM swaps have always been a problem. Plenty of crypto heists and intrusions happened due to the 2FA method landing in the hands of bad actors.

Depending on the model you can do SGD commands with simple TCP packets to the printer port anyway, no password required.
Try this in a powershell window, replace "yourdeviceiphere" with the IP of the printer
$ip="yourdeviceiphere";$c=New-Object Net.Sockets.TcpClient($ip,9100);$s=$c.GetStream();$cmd=[Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetBytes("! U1 getvar `"device.product_name`"`r`n");$s.Write($cmd,0,$cmd.Length);Start-Sleep 1;$buf=New-Object byte[] 1024;$n=$s.Read($buf,0,$buf.Length);[Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString($buf,0,$n);$c.Close()
If it returns a printer model you can do SGD this way.

people hate changes and having to make minimal effort
That's why they're making you do it. Drop the operations admin stuff on someone else.

No, I don't think you're doing anything wrong, config.office.com methodology is just counter-intuitive. I skipped Intune.
I recently moved to config.office.com to get a better grasp on update channels, I found it's only applicable to M365 Office installs, and how you originally installed the software. I had a heck of a time to get cloud updates to work until I blew away all user based installs and redeployed using a fresh device configuration with the Monthly Update Channel configured. Otherwise it happily ignored Cloud Update and went with whatever was the tenant default.
You can bake in most the templates in the application preferences section of the Office Customization Tool.

Haven't really noticed any issues with the universal app, deploys fine.
Once installed though I use dcu-cli to set update schedules and trigger updates automatically. Only if I need the end-user to see progress do I pop up the GUI.

The Zebra Print app seems to work fine over wifi.
For giggles I tested it. I was able to add the printer in the app, then print a pdf to a networked ZT411.

"Hackers". I worked in a similar environment and wouldn't put it past an insider threat. I know some Maintenance & Refrigeration guys who'd happily utilize the shared credentials to do some damage.
It's time for your daily browser CVE notification
