Crowd control ramped up because the usual antivax idiots are here now.

Folks, while the flu and covid vaccines are not mandatory, they BOTH serve the same purpose: boost your immunity against the latest strains of each virus.

Yes, they're both actual vaccines.

Yes, they are both effective (with the usual caveats regarding the strain used for the vaccines and the strain that turns out to be the dominant one this season).

MarcusRex73

My instructions to my team is that you need to tell ME why you're gone (sick leave can be general, I don't need or have a right to your medical information) but you can tell the team only that you're absent.

So the team calendar, used to make sure people are here or not so we can redistribute the work if needed, simply says "absent".

For last minute leave, typically sick leave, I'll inform the team and say "Bob is not in today". They don't need to know why. As the supervisor, I need a bit more, but within the rules.

For medical leave of any significance, my priority is to see if the employee is "ok" and if they need anything.

If/when they start to run low on leave, we'll have a discussion, but it's not about knowing what their illness is but about ensuring they are aware of their leave balance, any possible ways to manage their absences up to and including long term medical leave.

I will ask for a doctor's note for large amounts of medical leave, but only in a scenario where they're already talking to a doctor anyways. I won't force anyone to get a note if they aren't already dealing with medical professionals anyways. Doesn't really come up much.

Locking this post, the racists have shown up and are now spamming the post with their "everything wrong in Canada is somehow related to immigration" crap.

MarcusRex73

Yeah, go read the sticky. The posts we lock/nuke have essentially 0 signal to noise. There's nothing to save.

MarcusRex73

This guy mods!

MarcusRex73

Then, somehow, figure out how to stop crowds of people showing up on this PUBLIC discussion forum and derailing the discussion.

When you figure out how to perform this miracle, let us know.

Until then, the INSTANT the discussion starts to derail, we'll lock it down because it has been clearly PROVEN that these posts will become a shit show that would require inhuman levels of effort to salvage to no real gain.

MarcusRex73

And it took you 15m to bring it up, any bets on how long it takes for this post to be filled with other people bringing it up?

MarcusRex73

ok folks, I've ramped up the Crowd Control on this one as the subject matter is one that always gets people riled up.

We don't care how you feel about the police, any calls for violence against anyone will be removed and the poster sanctioned, as per SOP.

MarcusRex73

And, as is to be expected, we'Re back to arguments about Israel, Palestine, Genocide, not-Genocide etc etc etc.

Locking.

MarcusRex73

Crowd control has been maxed out for this post due to the subject matter. Notice to the trolls: we won't tolerate any crap.

MarcusRex73

The single, most innovative thing the GOC has done in recent memory was the adoption of a STANDARD, CROSS-DEPARTMENTAL, on-demand chat and video conferencing tools called Teams.

Seriously, this thing is about as revolutionary as when email arrived and, just as like when email arrived, we have a bunch of pearl clutching reactionary people who have a death grip on their typewriters or, in this case, their offices.

Teams (or any equivalent tool) literally broke the Work=Office link. Many of us no longer need to be physically on site to do our work. It's a MASSIVE change. Those of us who supervise people in other locations went from an occasional phone conference call and emails to daily communication as required. I now know what my remote employees look like. Don't tell me we need to go into the office for collaboration, Teams is simply better than piling into some dungy conference room for almost everything.

So, of course, the GOC decided to turn its back on it, ignore the productivity boost and lower costs it provided and went back, figuratively, to typewriters and carbon paper because some VIP somewhere like the feel of the paper.

Why try to innovate when they refuse to adapt to anything new?

MarcusRex73

Crowd control has been maxed out for this post. To our guests with no real history with the sub, if you're just here to stir the pot, you'll be banned.

MarcusRex73

Lock because of all the racism and disingenuous comments.

MarcusRex73

Folks, normally federal gov't RTO policies is not in scope for this sub as it's federal level and most of the federal PS works outside Ottawa.

However, this is about a mayoral candidate from Ottawa speaking about it, and the RTO policies at the provincial and municipal level, so it's in scope for the sub.

EDIT: just to preempt the usual bullshit, anyone making broad, negative comments about public servants at any level will have their comments removed and will possibly banned. Keep your crap of this sub.

For the federal level, the RTO policy was adopted with no business case and no supporting documentation. ATIP requests have shown that the real reasons are about optics.

TBS is on record stating it was never about productivity. In fact, MULTIPLE departments were going to switch to a remote-by-default work model because of the overall positive experience during the 2-3 years of full WFH during the pandemic. That is, until TBS did a full 180 on this subject for "philosophical reasons". A.K.A. "because we said so". Those departments weren't going to go ahead with the remote-by-default unless their own experiences were very positive.

All of this is also probably true at provincial, municipal and private levels. RTO policies fly directly in the face of all evidence, both practical and theoretical, and are being implemented for reasons other than those being provided by the various employers.

So you can keep your disingenuous bullshit off the sub,

MarcusRex73

The post was removed for being low quality, unverified rumour level stuff.

IF this is true, then the right thing has already been done: the police were informed.

However, this sub will not be used for what amounts to a witchhunt/online lynching/ harassement/rage bait.

YEs, their crimes are horrible but Reddit sitewide rules don't permit using this platform to track a person's movements in real life. If there is an issue IRL with this individual, or anyone else, call the police.

Sorry folks, locking. Multiple trolls in the comments.

MarcusRex73

Locked. We're being brigaded.

Locking. We're being brigaded.

MarcusRex73

And the award for disingenuous comment of the day goes to u/Professional_Fun_433/

First, this is Canada, it's called "Freedom of Expression"

Next, if you understood either "free speech" or "Freedom of expresion", you would understand that BOTH are about the GOVERNMENT limiting your ability to say stuff. Private entities are not obligated to let you say anything.

Third, this is a private site. You agreed to a series of rules when you created your account. Calling for violence or harm clearly violates those rules and, as this is a private site, they are completely free to kick you out.

Finally, as a mod, it's LITERALLY my job to remove calls for violence or any other rules violations. Hence the sticky reminding users they must "colour inside the lines" even for accused child traffickers.

So you're oh-so-subtle jab is utter crap.

MarcusRex73

Tell ya what, when you have the pedigree necessary to argue with the judge, go right ahead.

As many have pointed out, the new bail rules are probably unconstitutional and the judge, the guy who would know, decided to go against it because he (drumroll) judged it was necessary. Since we don't know what the reasons are, we can't speculate but I think it's safe to assume that the reasons are relevant.

If the Crown has an issue with it, they can appeal but judges have broad powers for a reason.
