Breaking WaPo: Trump showed a classified map he retained from his first term in office to passengers on a 2022 private plane flight and retained another record so sensitive that only six high-ranking government officials had access to it, according to a prosecution memo released to Congress.

That was a cat born on a cold day.

Part of why domestic cat colors are a complex affair is that they can changed based on birth conditions. The warmer it is, the lighter the color of their fur. The colder, the darker they get. This fella seems to have been able to keep most of their face and toe beans warm while the rest was exposed.

This past election shows that we're still recovering from Civil War and the aborted attempt to bring the South to heel afterwards and the fight for the 19th Amendment. We've had over a century on both and it still bothers some non-zero amount of people that women and people of color want to have a voice in our government.

That kind of thing doesn't happen without serious effort. Serious design time and inspection. You don't randomly get a society that cannot stop itself from slitting its own throat. It requires a lot of effort and a lot of indifference to suffering.

In some very real ways America is still recovering from all of the traumatic changes it's ever gone through. It's going to take some serious organization, some setting aside of personal desires (I will smack the next person who says Kamala wasn't progressive enough), and getting through some thickened skulls that it won't get better if they don't make the effort to make it better.

Fuck me, I think I just said the entire nation needs to go to therapy and get their shit together.

I know I'm in the minority, but I've never been a fan of "personality" radio. Turning the radio on means I want to listen to music. I'll tolerate your constant, repetitive car sales commercials if you give me music before and after them. But if you give me an egotistical, edgelord try-hard ass with an idiotic sidekick for laughs then I'm going to turn it off. Or find another station that is playing music.

For the record, Afentra's show came on after I was in the office, so I didn't hear her shenanigans. It was Lazlo in the afternoon which really drove me to turn the station off. How they thought he could carry a national show will forever be beyond my comprehension.

Just when I thought I'd read the most racist thing possible, someone goes and writes something even more racist.

MartiniPhilosopher

JFC. If this doesn't make it clear that the police can't be reformed here you go.

MartiniPhilosopher

Maybe. Cat's vocalizations are pretty varied. To my ears that sounds more like a "I'm hungry! Where is someone who will feed me!"

MartiniPhilosopher

The Tortie is already planning your death.

That look it's giving you? Yeah. That one is trouble all the way through.

MartiniPhilosopher

Just in case anyone wasn't clear yet on exactly what "heartbeat" bills are going for, this is it.

Remember! People in these situations almost always wanted to take the pregnancy to term. They were planning on having a regular birth. They wanted the child.

They. Wanted. The. Child.

So when you hear anyone else saying "abortion is being used for birth control" or other such nonsense? You know they're lying. They're lying through ignorance and that's incredibly bad. Or they're lying and know just how common it is for women to miscarry and have the above happen to them. Which is even worse.

Either way, if they don't back down, carry on telling them how heartless, cruel, and misogynistic they're being. Don't let up until they give up and give in or run away from you. It's about damn time we stand up to these idiot bullies and put them in their proper place.

MartiniPhilosopher

I'm not sure about the cause-effect relationship you propose.

Those like Rand Paul truly believe they're owed this kind of thing. That they're part of an aristocracy who are supposed to be simply given deference and whatever it is they "ask" for by way of demands such as in his speech. That's the problem. They don't see the US as a democracy in the least. They see it as a birthright to be in the office, to be given the bribes and power they've accumulated.

That's why they don't see it as a double standard or hypocrisy. It was always theirs to begin with. It never belonged to the people of the United States. That's the mental gymnastics they have settled upon. To ignore the evolution of the nation and to think that it should remain as it started out. It's part of why they seemingly worship the founding fathers. Who were a basic form of aristocracy -- the governors and land-owners that had been propped up and supported by a power from across the sea.

Coincidently that's also why they have such a god-tier shitfit every time someone wants to promote the 1619 project. It's one of the main thrusts of it. That the founding fathers weren't trying to bring a nation of freedom to the world. But were trying to keep as much power and wealth as they could!

good bot

Soooooo....at what point does that become criminal blackmail?

Because that sounds really, really close to criminal blackmail.

"Give us money so our cult members don't beat you to a bloody pulp," is how that comes across. Which is an explicit threat last I checked and more than a little illegal.

Mitch McConnell, I blame you for this. Had you put your party behind either of the senate trials, this wouldn't be happening.

There's a lot to be said about the GOP and their wage suppression of the past 40 years. Being able to keep so many people busy with work, trying to find work, or worry about remaining employed allows them to have policies which aren't examined or talked about at any length.

Try to imagine an informed populace and the first thing you need is for them to have the time to read, think, and critically analyze information. To have that time, they need to be paid well enough that they can do that without worry. Workplace protections for voting that aren't just so many words, regulations on campaign propaganda which keep information from being twisted or outright lied about. Remember, the 1st Amendment doesn't protect lying. And before anyone jumps in with "both sides" bullshit there's only one side that ignores science, hides behind religious exemptions, and pushed the Citizens United case up to the SCotUS.

At this point I can't tell if they're the luckies sons-of-bitches or if they're just that good at planning. Either way, the bastards need to be brought down.

MartiniPhilosopher

B R I B E R Y

That's exactly what this is. It's tit for tat. Quid pro quo.

"Corrupt this part of the government and not only will I protect you but I will make sure you get paid."

MartiniPhilosopher

Probably because it was a state level charity and not a federal one. And it likely would have been brought up had McConnell allowed for evidence to be read into the record.

It's that last bit which should leave a near permanent salty taste. He neatly avoided having to account for their votes because of it. Bastard through and through.

She about to cut a bitch

The hell is this line doing in the article?

(It’s a less impressive achievement than it appears—when Texas Democrats gather, it’s mainly to hear the sound of their voices as they agree with each other.)

Just to both-sides the thing and make it look like the Texas GOP isn't the only fuckwits in the state?

MartiniPhilosopher

And Freon which were also invented by the same man. He died from strangulation thanks to an invention he used to get around.

MartiniPhilosopher

Wait. Did you give up your tumblr? Either way to see you here!

MartiniPhilosopher

Remember when the GOP was a party of "free trade?" I do too, until they found a candidate that loved tariffs.

Remember when the GOP was the party of limited Government spending (including military) and balanced budgets? I do too, until they gave into utter hypocrisy about the issue.

These are only small examples of a much bigger problem -- the GOP has absolutely no consistency in its policies or principles.

I get what you're saying but you're in /r/SelfAwarewolves territory here.

The GOP has never had any sense of policies or principles since, at least, WW2 and that's debatable giving the long history of HUAC and it's origins in the 1930s. It was always hypocrisy when they proposed austerity for the state but rewarded the private sector with the work. It was always about limiting what government could do for they deemed unworthy and opening it up for those whom they thought god smiled upon. Consistency is and is only for those who thought the world could be a better place and not for those who see it as a religious testing ground for the next life.

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect..."

Once you embrace this dictum you will understand the forces arrayed behind Trump and his every decision made.

MartiniPhilosopher

Have your damn upvote you dirty heathen.

MartiniPhilosopher

The cruelty is the point.

It's that simple. He has transcended the need to think of others. He's forgotten that in his childhood his mother got by on Social Security, the equivalent of food stamps (for the time), and the generosity of society. Furthermore, not only has he forgotten, he has gone around to the other side and believes that no one needs them. Yes, "needs". For him, they're abstract if not invisible social ills which cannot and do not conform to his mental map of the world.

Why? Because for him, the exercise of power is the reason for everything. It is why cruelty is the point. There's no other exercise of power except to make others suffer and to see that suffering happen with his own eyes.

MartiniPhilosopher

That and information travels much further now. While I can see some political junkies like /u/dirtielaundry's dad knowing that Ken Starr was a complete hack back then, it took a good deal of effort and knowing what to read to find that out. The internet has changed this. It takes effort to avoid political news, discourse, and analysis at this point. The choice to be ignorant of such things requires a certain amount of self delusion at this point.

MartiniPhilosopher

Here's a question. Where did the mailman hating dog trope come from? More correctly, where did it go?

I'm asking seriously. Because it doesn't seem to be a thing anymore. Were our grandparents and older simply being assholes in training their pups to be aggressive? Has society changed enough in the past thirty to forty years that dogs attacking the mail delivery people has completely turned around?

Are cats and dogs living together in harmony against all of the lessons Tom and Jerry taught us?

ps: I know the answer to the last one, and the answer is yes. I have multiple pups and kittens and they cohabit just fine.

The woe that is the 13th amendment which didn't completely rid of us slavery.
