You found an article that, in your view, invalidates one "talking point" of a group of people you disagree with and think it means you're right about everything because they were wrong about one thing. Faulty generalization. More importantly, you seem to think that talking points take into account every little nuance, complication, and exception conceivable. They don't, they're talking points. They're easily regurgitatable pieces of information that are mostly true (in this case). Of course there are going to be exceptions if you dig deep enough, and you found one, congratulations. Again, "So what?" Or, expanded, "Yes, you are right in saying that not all treatments for transgender youth are reversible. What point are you trying to make?" If you're trying to generalize this particular surgical treatment to all treatments, that's fallacious reasoning. Not all treatments are reversible, but many are, and everyone involved with this topic from medical professionals, clinical researchers, and the patients themselves say that these treatments are beneficial. Sometimes even life saving. Why would you prevent people from accessing these treatments? Simply because they may not be able to change their mind later? If I were a quadriplegic minor and a procedure was available to fix that, would you deny me the ability to undergo that treatment purely because it would irreversibly allow me to be comfortable in my own body and provide a measurable benefit to my mental and physical well being? Because that is, whether you acknowledge it or not, the exact position I think you're arguing. Unless you're just playing Devil's advocate for the sake of trolling people, in which case, you're a dick, because even if you don't believe that, a lot of people do, and you're giving them justification for erroneous beliefs.

Talking points aren't everything, and being right isn't the end all be all, especially when real human lives are impacted by what people think. Literally everything that anyone has an opinion on is more complicated than it first appears. If you don't have the mental capacity to understand even that much, than you should fuck right off and stop talking authoritatively about things you know nothing about.

Plus r/politics is pretty left leaning and you're more likely to get people who support the more left leaning candidates like Warren and Sanders. It's still a bubble, just a different kind of bubble. Sure, r/politics allows posts from places like FOX, Breitbart and Townhall, but those posts get downvoted to hell the instant they show up. Like it or not the majority of Democrats, and especially Democrats that actually vote, are centrists without a big social media presence. Social media itself is very much an echo chamber, and reddit is social media.

I'm hoping progressives coalesce around Bernie or Warren in the coming primaries because I'd really like it for someone other than Biden to win (even if it's Harris). I don't subscribe to the belief that many in this sub have about Biden's electability, but that's an issue I don't feel like touching on too much because it usually earns me a lot of compulsory down votes.

I think this cycle the Democrats are going to do what the Republicans always do: fall in line and vote for whoever isn't the other guy. As a leftist who doesn't identify with the Democratic party any more, I know my vote is going to go to the eventual democratic nominee. My inner realist won't let me throw away my vote on a third party nominee, regardless of my own personal beliefs. We live in America damn it, and that means you have two choices or you might as well not vote at all.
