The meme that I've seen going around recently;
10 people are on a bus. 3 people vote to drive off a cliff. 2 people vote to stay on the road. 5 people dont vote. "Drive off a cliff" wins, and everyone in the bus dies.
...
Look, if you are at a party and the question "what pizza should we order" gets raised, its okay to not have an opinion.
Politics aint pizza. Politics informs the direction society goes in.
People who dont vote view themselves as somehow being apolitical and therefore morally superior, but they are the most evil group in that bus example. They dont care about life and wouldnt give a shit if people suffer and die, just dont bother them about it. They have the power to do good (read: prevent evil), and they cant be assed to care. Disgusting.

I'm probably a bit more left leaning than those, but I'd absolutely support a modern Roosevelt.

Every significant problem humanity faces could be solved if we based financial success on flow rather than accumulation, heavily penalizing hoarders. Thats idealistically what trickle down was supposed to be, but we forgot to penalize the hoarders.

... I thought it was a cool idea. Do odd ball jobs, take pressure off my car in terms of mileage. As long as I can complete the task in a reasonable time, cool.
Then I read your post.
Yeah
This is gross.
Turn everyone into a 1099 so they can justify paying us all less than min wage.
Fucks sake.

On purpose.
They deprecated a lot from old bpm. Joystick Camera has been unavailable since the new bpm took over
Mennenth
Joysticks "adaptive centering" is more like "you have to start from center"
Its entirely different than the actual adaptive centering that was found in the old Joystick Camera mode that was "removed" (you can still technically get it back with some vdf editing, but the ui will break as new bpm wasnt built to display its settings)

This was years ago, but on a planet that had pillars I once got most of the way through flattening a pillar for a ton of silicate powder.
Would not recommend. The game crashed when it tried to autosave, and when I finally loaded back in the pillar had been almost completely restored.

For Steam Controller 2015?
Bad marketing on Valves part (at conferences they talked heavily about solving the "pc games at the couch" problem but then the marketing says all steam games and they showed off several console games),
Leading to skewed customer expectations ("it should replace my xbox controller despite not being a xbox controller"),
Combined with poor steam input defaults (Valve played it too safe, leading to the out of the box experience being "janky xbox controller" and no one wants that),
And relying on the community to teach itself how to use steam input (while people like RambleTan are big in the community, the community itself is tiny).
...
Things would probably be a lot different if Valve leaned into its strengths, marketed it as the enthusiasts pc centric controller that it is, set the defaults up to really take advantage of it in the games it was built for, and made a huge effort to explain steam input themselves. A spin off game (like aperture hand lab/desk job) explaining it would have also helped.

I accounted for that with my final paragraph.
I dont blame you for not wanting to tip, given how much Uber charges you.
I'm just laying out the reality of the situation, and your options.
If you dont tip well, your order will be declined by drivers and sit in the system not being picked up until Uber increases their offer enough that a driver can actually make money taking it.
Drivers arent the issue; we're trying to make money, not lose it. Customers arent the issue; you're already paying exorbitant fees. Uber is the issue by offering shit base pay.
But you are the one who fell for Ubers tactics, by supporting a feature Uber added that is antagonistic towards drivers. Its a feature that more or less reads as "accept slave wages (offers that lose the driver money) or dont work at all". And you want it to stay? Why?
Mennenth
We don't want to keep declining.
We want to be paid correctly.
Uber doesnt pay correctly unless an order hasnt been picked up for some time.
Uber is exploiting the combination of 1099 job classification and tipping culture to pit drivers against customers, all while they rake in huge profits. They charge you something like 10 dollars in service and delivery fees, but their initial offer to a driver is 2 dollars (even for something ridiculous like a 10 mile trip, where the driver would literally lose money if they accepted the trip). They do increase it over time the longer the order goes without being picked up, but that means many drivers will be declining it in the meantime.
That means if you as a customer want faster service, you need to tip well.
If you want faster service without tipping (which I dont blame you, because of the afforementioned fees Uber charges you), your problem is with Uber and not the drivers.

Oh my god its a single player game. Its okay for things to be overpowered. Especially because the game is balanced around ante 8. The overwhelming majority of the time, nothing is breaking the game in ante 8 runs.
Thunk, if you are reading this...
Nothing needs to be nerfed. Dont ruin fun based on what a handful of top players say.
"But perkeo is one of the only ways to naneinf!"
... Okay? So nerf steels, baron, mime, blueprint, brainstorm, burglar, and change serpent to instead of always draw 3 draw 3 or up to hand cap whichever is lower?
Its a single player game. Buffs, not nerfs.

I have found that it is the online communities segment of the hobby that is the worst. Social media has basically ruined everything, and yes I understand the irony of saying that on a social media platform.
In person communities tend to be better.
There are exceptions both ways, of course.
As far as gatekeeping/high standards go... I'm late 30's and have been starting to agree more and more that some level of it is indeed a good thing. However, its a short distance from gatekeeping to elitism and in my experience elitism is worse than no gatekeeping at all. So, yes. Gatekeep. But do be careful.
Mennenth
Yeah.
They wanted to make it like Death Stranding, I think, where faltering and dumping all your cargo and having to re-retrieve it is part of the gameplay loop.
The thing is that Death Stranding gave you the tools to deal with any obstacles you might come across, and you could actually go slowly to lessen the chances of faltering, and there was a grace period where if you did falter you could recover before dumping everything. Nms gives you... Nothing lol
Basically, in Death Stranding dumping your cargo is a skill issue. In NMS, dumping your cargo is at the whims of the physics engine.
I adored Death Stranding. It was a fun challenge.
I absolutely hate the NMS planet side Colossus garbage man loop. It crosses the line from challenge to aggravating.
Mennenth
Planet side waste collection/disposal using the Colossus.
Nms' physics engine is not built for it as it is capricious and will bounce the cargo out at the tiniest of bumps in the terrain (you made no mistake), and the rewards are solely cosmetics for the Colossus and an absolute pittance of nanites meaning its a gameplay loop that doesnt touch any other aspect of the game. Well... It is a gravitino coil demo I guess, but salvaging space hulks with a Corvette does that too and is a better implementation so...
Mennenth
idk dude
for some drivers "clear" means no vehicles in sight for a mile, passing up several absolutely acceptable opportunities to make their turn... all just to make a right hand turn into the right hand lane of a multi-lane road, which is the least risky type of turn here in the US.
just go ffs. you're holding everyone else up and causing a backup.
Mennenth
Yeah thats fair. It is all market dependent.
As for me in my market, its kind of flipped; half my trips this past week have been from the radar, because the exclusive offers tend to be the shit ones.
Mennenth
... I'm not sure I understand the threat? Yeah it can be a pain to fight over trip radar requests, but given the stupid acceptance rate mind game nonsense this almost feels like a "dont threaten me with a good time" thing xD
Mennenth
I like multiplayer games when its specifically with friends locally.
Online multiplayer brings out the worst in people. No game is worth putting up with the toxic interactions that happen due to no real repercussions because of anonymity.

I'm an advocate for kilts being an everyday wear instead of a special occasion wear for this reason.
They stand out in a sea of jeans and khaki's, and are way more comfortable especially in the summer.
Edit: also, nail polish used to be for men too. Add a bit of color in your life, it makes things better!
Mennenth
Makes me wish we had the ability to counter bid the offers. If an order gets rejected by so many drivers that it gets shown to me again, let me name my price.
Mennenth
Its always the biscuits. They are always "just waiting on another biscuit". Plenty of chicken everywhere, no biscuits. Its kind of wild.
Mennenth
I had something similar happen the other night. The order wasnt ready yet. They said 5 minutes. As those minutes passed more customers came in, and all of the employees kept working only on the in store customer orders. They didnt assign even a single worker to make online orders.
I just cancelled for excessive wait time and walked out. I would have stuck it out if someone was actively working on the order, but not working on the order at all when the driver is in the store is straight up disrespectful.

Laypeople think that how integrated all Apple products are with each other makes the whole ecosystem better. And in some ways, yes. But it also creates a "vendor lock in" problem. Once you're in the ecosystem, it becomes increasingly more difficult to use anything outside that ecosystem.
Android is largely just as if not more capable than iOS, but doesnt suffer from vendor lock in.
Mennenth
Total money is all I look at. As long as it hits my goals, I hit accept.
And while yes, non tippers can be annoying to deal with... Honestly the more money Uber has to pay me the better imo. Their service fees on the customer side are ridiculous (which does lead to people tipping less in general unless you live in a very bougie area), they rake in huge amounts of money every year, yet they have the audacity to give me an "exclusive" offer of 2 dollars for a 15 mile one way trip and then "punish" me for not taking it by way of the stupid acceptance rate thing...
This is an intentional feature called "anti-hooking"
You can reclaim that area of the trackpad with a convar
