Geh zu den Nibelungen, da bist du in dem Preissegment bei manchen Wohnungen (falls du eine kriegst).

Not even God could help this dude.

Do you feel that it is a justified critique? To me it seems like Foucault never really put up a strong dichotomy between types of power. It's just that different mechanisms of power are prominent in different historical periods. Of course biopower has always played a role. Of course sovereign Power still plays a role. It's all power. What advantage does Agambens focus on sovereign power achieve?

Walking upright has been an evolutionary disaster on SO MANY levels.

Man, only an analytic philosopher could have come up with the experience machine and take it seriously.

It's not quite what you're looking for, since you seem to be interested in the biology of life extension but I always recommend "New Methuselas" by John K. Davies. It's about the Ethics of it all and for me this aspect is usually glossed over but just as important.

Mexopa

If that is true, I really don't understand your original comment. How could you be a supporter of the blatant hypocrisy this vote suggests? Also, I'm not American myself and very aware of how toxic the discourse is. This post here, however, is not toxic. If we cannot call out deplorable actions, we let the fascists win.

Mexopa

Trans-rights are not an American-exclusive problem and if you believe that they are "shoved down your throat" you have no place in a genuine progressive and future-oriented community.

One of my professors claims to only have understood Hegel once he read him in english. But it's not widespread, I think. Hegel is very hard in German and pretty incomprehensible through self-study imo. But it's alright with a competent teacher. I should look at the english translations some time.

Mexopa

I'm interested. Why do you think that? I agree that past philosophies often become ideological tools of states. But that is precisely the point at which they can no longer claim to be proper philosophy. Why do you think that every new philosophy is necessarily captured by a state, even in conception? Is the thought you present in your comment not already a philosophical provocation against this type of 'philosophy'? Is novel thought impossible? Do you not already succumb to the capitalist narrative if you think that a different way of thought is Impossible?

Mexopa

We do love him.

Man, I hate these "OMG, philosophy ist so useless Bro, even Wittgenstein recognized it!" Posts. It just plays into the capitalist narrative that all use is equivalent to economical use value. It only helps conservative power relations. Here, take this quote from someone who called Wittgenstein the 'assassin of philosophy':

"When someone asks ‘what’s the use of philosophy?’ the reply must be aggressive, since the question tries to be ironic and caustic. Philosophy does not serve the State or the Church, who have other concerns. It serves no established power. The use of philosophy is to sadden. A philosophy that saddens no one, that annoys no one, is not philosophy. It is useful for harming stupidity, for turning stupidity into something shameful."

No problem. If you have questions feel free to ask!

I would recommend Historical Epistemology (of which Kuhn can be seen as a part) in general as a response to Popper. I would recommend Rheinberger for introductions, although I don't know which of his texts have been translated.

Dictators very rarely die due to old age and are way more likely to get disposed violently.
