MiaThePotat
MiaThePotat

Realest shit ever😂

MiaThePotat
Guilty as charged 😂😂

MiaThePotat
MiaThePotat

Not anytime in the near future, not anytime where the 5090 is still relevant.
I'm really failing to understand how "some dude won't be able to replicate cutting edge technology developed by multi-trillion dollar industries in their backyard in a timeframe where that technology is still relevant" is that hard of a thing for you to believe apparently.
Could Apple, Samsung, Nvidia, AMD or any other conglomerate decide to get their own fab and get in on the game? Probably.
John, 37 from Massachusetts? Probably not, not anytime in the near future.
Edit: Apparently Samsung is not fabless. Still it's a multibillion megacorporation. My point stands, and if anything, is actually supported by this.

The goalpost remained very firmly at "someone can't manufacture a 5090 in their backyard" and hasn't moved a centimeter

look at IBM North Pole
Still a whole ass megacorporation. Not some guy making ripoff chips in his backyard.
these are individuals doing it in there homes
And still it's 1,200 transistors. Juuust a tiny bit shy of the 5090s 92.2 BILLION transistors. You know, just 6 orders of magnitude. Also probably about the difference between the amount of money you and Bill gates have, give or take (probably take) a few puny billions.

First of all, compute chips are much, much more complicated than RAM.
Second of all... The article does not mention how much memory he actually created. Creating a few bytes of RAM is something I could probably do with like a few minutes of spare time and some basic hobbyist electrical components I have at home.
Manufacturing a 32GB DDR5 stick though? Good fucking luck.
MiaThePotat
Very big reason actually. Chips are INCREDIBLY hard to manufacture. Reverse engineering software is about where the problem ends. Even if the hardware of the 5090 is reverse engineered, good fucking luck producing it at all. It takes VERY expensive machines and teams of the most brilliant electrical engineers, optics engineers, and industrial engineers available to produce them at all, even moreso at anything that even comes close to for reasonable prices.
Chip manufacturing is no laughing matter. It is truly one of the most complicated achievements of modern engineering and humanity in general and it doesn't get talked about enough.

But have you HEARD his English????

500 additional cars on the road burn much more oil than a train carrying 500 people, meaning more sales, and more demand, so higher pricetag on those sales. Of course they'd support cars any day of the week.

Thing is, all of this legislation is overwhelmingly affecting gender non-conforming cisgender women, POCs, and the children who are expected to submit to genital examination to participate in school sports more than the relatively tiny population of trans people, and that should concern everyone.
The fact that this legislation is harming trans people first and foremost, as it is literally made to make their life as hard as possible, should be enough.

There's this clothes shop in northern watson. If you talk to the vendor, you learn that he was a fashion designer, "until AI started spitting out thousands of designs a minute. Simply can't compete with that", or something to that effect.
Crazy to think that was considered dystopian in 2020...
