I'm fine with people creating and nurturing spaces to talk about the world and their lives going downhill. And there are plenty of these spaces in the Fediverse. What I'm not fine with is how those topics invade every space about something else in the Fediverse.

For some reason CloudFlair isn't letting me hit Lemmy.World directly, so could you share the community name and topic title?

The topic is "Trans Science Removed From [email protected]", in ![email protected] . An overburdened admin (Sal) mistakenly removes a post due to bogus reports. And it was obviously a mistake, for anyone checking ![email protected] or mander.xyz's modlog or even Sal's profile.

(I'd link the post to your home instance, but the comm didn't federate there yet.)

But look at the comments: a lot of people raised the pitchforks before doing any due diligence. They would raise the exact same pitchforks against you or me: because you did a mistake (we're humans), because you expressed yourself poorly (...that's me), because you took a decision that displeases a chunk of the userbase for the sake of another chunk, because timing made them assume you did something for other reasons than you actually did (I got this once), because you don't spend 25h/day broadcasting your views (yup, got these too)...

Btw, what's interesting to me is that based on his statements I'm aware of, PJ didn't retire for the reasons you did, but because he was very upset at Rimu's introduction of vote-capping.

To be clear, you're right on the reason PJ claims he left. I was quoting what he was saying about Rimu concerning piefed.social's development, as hostile to his way to browse. It's just that specific quote "stuck" with me, and I applied to a different situation.

But I do wonder if PugJesus didn't get fed up with the whole thing. Or Sal, too; note how mander.xyz went down due to external forces, but it's still not up again. (I wonder if he didn't say "why bother?")
