It could be, but the life cycle of a planet is literally beyond our comprehension.

Sometimes I think it needs to happen.

After every major extinction event, the few species that survive evolve faster, and end up more advanced.

Maybe every planet with intelligent life goes through that cycle until eventually the species is advanced enough to cast aside violence and greed.

Maybe there is intelligent life out there that can travel between worlds, but after going through those cycles, they know you can't interfere, so they don't.

Either way, humanity is going full speed to the end of our cycle, and I hope it happens before a world leader ends up being demented enough to start a nuclear bombardment on a large enough scale to cause real damage.

I mean, oxygen is literally toxic. Life survived just fine when plants started giving it off and the atmospheric oxygen levels skyrocketed.

Humans won't survive a massive change, and we'll take countless species with us while we try to survive, but the planet will be just fine without us.

I think, in a hundred million years, the children of whatever the next form of life is will be taught about us, and we'll be thought of as just another extinction event, a species that wiped the slate, no different than a meteor.
