I build a website myself. It is not good by any means because Frontend aren’t one of my passions. I build backends mainly.
For tech it is just next.js with framer and custom svgs from figma

I use two Authentik instances. One for a small customer and one for myself and a dev project.
I started with Authentik and It is kind of the default for all my apps. I started trying Pocket ID two weeks ago. And it is kind of nice. The ui looks good and it feels so lightweight XD
So I maybe switch in the future for my personal stuff over.

(For the technical setup. I just use the default helm chars with a few little tweaks, because my longhorn storage on the nodes isn't the fastest XD)

I tested one static website for now and it worked great.
I will need to take a deep dive into how to set up Cert Manager again. But it worked great for now. I really appreciate all the feedback and also the `prune:false` part, which saved my ass XD

Wow thanks for the response. I will take a look at ApplicationSets and PR generator.
I have nothing against Argo CD. The problems we face at work are mainly slow sync times and that (as far as I'm aware) the webhook for instant syncing isn't working properly.
Also notifications are a bit of a pain, because over node rescales of azure, they somehow get broken and argo needs to be restarted.
To be honest I'm not in our infra team. So I don't know If they are just not able to set it up the way it should work. But for every dev image which should get deployed there is always the joke that we can go have a coffee break and pray that argo does what argo does.

But as said. Please don't take it personal or negative. It is always very possible we have a wrong setup. It is also quite large with around 350 different applications and 48 different dev teams which need to work together.

Okay thanks. I will keep all your suggestions in mind. And i choose Flux now because I really like to work in the terminal. It has first class integration for the terminal and just works as far as I can see now. The whole part with Kustomize and "Fluxtomization" or how it is called isn't that confusing for me, so yeah.

For ObServe. When you want to test it. Let me know over Discord (null512)
Because the current version doesnt reflect our progress at all. I will hook you up with test accounts with our latest changes and where you don't need to create accounts or so. (More convenient for just a small look)

Thanks for the response. I'm starting to backup all my data into s3 buckets just to be sure and then adopt flux. I think the debate is over. I got so so much positive feedback for Flux and a lot of negative for Argo.
(For the monitoring part. I should have mentioned that I run much more also outside of this particular cluster and at anytime I can get alerts when something fails XD)
What you suggested I will do exactly (steps 1-4)

I have an forgejo external instance for config stuff etc, which doesn't interfere with any other parts of my setup. Would you use the external forgejo instance or host it on GitHub? I think GitHub would be a solid solution, because I don't need to look after anything. What do you use?

Also is this the tool you are building https://www.optimy.com? If so please contact me because I really need some feedback regarding a project a few students and I are building https://observe.vision/ (and no reddit mods this is not any form of advertisement :) )

MinimumOperation2386

I think there was a bit of context lacking. I use forgejo and also GitHub and a lot of stuff for infra and public work is there. The client stuff is all on forgejo. So yes the point is valid with the split

MinimumOperation2386

I will do that with their credits on a new account XD
Time for another one

MinimumOperation2386

Okay wow thanks.
I wanted to set it up over the bootstrap example because this is also listed on their website XD
The part with in what order what needs to be applied was also my concern. But I think it will all fit together once I start.
This reply is saved and loaded ready to be used as reference tomorrow XD

MinimumOperation2386

Love the reply XD.
I have a homelab with two nodes. One runs proxmox with all my homelab stuff, the other one is a tinkering station. The apps I listed above are mainly for freelance stuff and for a project I'm building with three other students.
For myself I want that first of all the projects gets a nice treatment in kind of best practises also to show it later in applications.
But also the work for other companies and small business. I need the services to work and run...

MinimumOperation2386

I have already done that XD. It teaches me the technical details in a manner I would look them up myself. I kind of enjoy reading through docs, because I often discover features or other stuff which sounds great and I use later on or remember.
When I'm clueless AI often saves me the hours I used to spend on stack overflow RIP

MinimumOperation2386

This list is insane. Thanks!!!

MinimumOperation2386

Okay thanks. I got this ui recommended
https://fluxcd.io/blog/2024/02/introducing-capacitor/
Then I will get myself buried into Flux

MinimumOperation2386

I'm gonna read this tomorrow. But holly shit thanks for the huge amount of information 🤝

MinimumOperation2386

I'm talking about automating the step so i don't need to apply anything over kubectl. So I'm able to version and let a program handle the state and changes to the cluster.

MinimumOperation2386

Okay.... Hmmmm. I understand what you mean and kind of see the problem.
Would you say Flux is worth it? So does the time and struggle make up for it?

MinimumOperation2386

Alright flux it is. So much positive feedback for flux XD

MinimumOperation2386

Absolute blessing 🤝

MinimumOperation2386

At work It is sometimes useful. But mainly to see if changes already were applied or spam the sync button XD
Otherwise I really don't need a gui...

MinimumOperation2386

Hahahahah the good old notifications. Our ops team loved this part XD. Every time we request changes on that part they hate us

MinimumOperation2386

What do you mean by overkill. I spend so much time writing down what I have done and applying changes for the devs I work with...
Am I just stupid and are doing it wrong XD

edit: Honest question

MinimumOperation2386

Thanks. Based on the replies also in r/homelab I think Flux will be a good fit. There is a lot of why .... is better out there about both applications. Flux seams to also match my view to space all out and have it as organised as possible

MinimumOperation2386

Thanks. Thats a good plan. I wont use much AI in my homelab, not because I'm a hater, more because I love to understand what I'm doing.
I use AI to kind of debug when I'm stuck for a bit XD

MinimumOperation2386

What do you exactly mean by the last sentence 😅 XD
