I miss my Palm Phone, wish it was strong enough to run modern Android software (which all does the same things it did in 2018 when the Palm Phone came out, but slower!)

Megalopolis is an experience. If you want to see it, you should see it.

This sets a really bad precedent for applications.
Yeah but it's Microsoft setting that precedent, not Firefox lol

I have a Moto Razr 2025. You can use any app in the outer screen (except maybe settings?). The main annoyance is that you do have to open it up if you want to take non-selfie pics.
MiscellaneousBeef
Yeah that and a third camera so I could take pictures of things without unfolding.
MiscellaneousBeef
People fucking love huge phones for whatever reason. I'm with you. I very rarely unfold the phone.

Buses need Cow Catchers

Also need an option not to show any twitter posts on the screen

Yeah I think smallphones is like 50/50 in its population. People who just want phones that were the same size as like normal phones ten years ago (which are now considered small), and then people who want tiny phones (me, I still miss my Palm Phone lol). Razr with a ring case is my compromise.
MiscellaneousBeef
Hell yes +1 hat of stealth!
MiscellaneousBeef
you still need to open it to access some apps like settings
Yes, that and the camera (assuming you don't wanna just take selfies) both require you to open it. But everything else can be done while the phone is closed.
the screen is actually smaller than it seems because of the double camera cutout
Yes, that makes it even better IMO. True one handed phone use.

Motorola Razr and just never open it.
MiscellaneousBeef
Yes. I like small phones but all the actually small phones are sadly too weak for modern apps. So I use the Razr and basically never open it. With the ring case it's fantastic for one handed use.

Running into this a year later when I opened a PDF on my Windows laptop lol.
I use the Dvorak layout, and I guess they use scancodes for rotate (rotate right would be ctrl+ ]), and keycodes for zoom (ctrl+= would be zoom in). The position of = in Dvorak is the same as ] in QWERTY, so it triggers them both for this reason.

I use Microsoft SwiftKey on the outside and just make it really small.
MiscellaneousBeef
Very usable overall. I have a ring case so I just stick my middle finger through the ring and swipe text with my thumb with the microsoft swiftkey keyboard set to be pretty compact on the left, shown in this picture.
You can see the screen doesn't go all the way across so it's really less than a 3.6" diagonal screen (just measured at around 3.25"), so kind of like a chunkier Palm Phone.
I usually open it up if I have to talk on the phone although that's not strictly necessary. Occasionally I will open it up for things that get cluttered on the front but it's pretty rare.
Inconveniences setting it up:
- The inner keyboard can be switched freely. The outer keyboard can be switched too, but they hide it. You have to let it use the default keyboard and then long press space to "switch the layout" and it will let you choose your preferred keyboard from there. Took a minute to figure out.
- As a left-handed user, I couldn't resize the keyboard correctly until I rotated it around 180°. That was pretty disorienting/frustrating until I figured out what was going on. Took more than a minute.
Two main recurring problems:
When it's closed, the only camera is facing me and the other camera is inside it, so if I see something interesting and want to take a picture, I have to open the phone up for it. Sometimes I consider getting a third camera to stick on the back or something lol
If I open it and close it, it switches back to the default keyboard. Have to do the long-press nonsense to switch it back to SwiftKey.

Honestly 5.2" is still too big for my preferences lol. I still miss my 3.3" Palm Phone, although sadly it's way too weak for modern phone apps.
I just gave up and use a Moto Razr and never open it, 3.6" external screen, and it doesn't go all the way to the side so it's effectively smaller. Super easy for one-handed use.

Randomly getting DQ'ed by Mario Yamasaki really took the wind out of his sails

They should have retired 170 for 165 and 175 when GSP retired. Would've been the perfect opportunity.

RCS is a mess. I had this problem a couple months ago. I could not resolve it myself. I went to T-Mobile, they reset something after verifying the account, worked fine immediately and since then.

Razr is usable as a fully functional one-handed phone without opening it (except for phone calls and photos). AFAIK the Samsung doesn't let you use all apps while it's closed.
MiscellaneousBeef
The lack of apps was absolutely fantastic, one of my favorite parts of Windows Phone. Imagine if 20-25% of the 15-50 y/o population had phones that had basically zero app support. No event venue would expect you to have the Ticketmaster app, no restaurants could insist on app use, mobile websites couldn't just blindly try to get you to install an app. It would be a better world. Stuck on Android now and it's terrible.
A case with a ring is perfect for using it while closed
