He’s trying to isolate you from your family and being a massive twat at the same time. As you used ‘Mum’ I’m guessing you are British.

So don’t whatever you do put him on the Birth Certificate, he’ll have full Parental Responsibly rights over your child and you will be arguing with him for the next 18 years about what your child can or can’t do. You wont even be able to move areas or send them to the school you want if he objects.

Every time he wants to control you or your child he’ll use that over you. Can you image being in your mid 30s and still dealing with this? Don’t do it.
