Texans negotiated some bullshit loopholes by saying the slaves were not slaves but under contract and eventually the Mexican government got tired of the bullshit which led directly to the war. There's also the fact that the US government wanted this to happen and facilitated the revolt so they could annex TX.

The big problem with Democrats isn’t their policy positions but their defeatist attitude which leads to them giving up before even trying. It’s why this current cohort of dems refuses to fight for anything even though they say democracy is at risk.

You are 100% right that this is not NYC but let’s not act like DC is poor. Much of the NYC changes have been really low hanging fruit after an incredibly corrupt administration which we also have here. But I am also just looking forward to a mayor who hasn’t given up before they even try and whom isn’t beholden to developers before their constituents. There is plenty that can be done and while we shouldn’t expect free childcare I don’t think we need to temper expectations. We should get in the habit of expecting MORE not less.
