Author of Duo here.
Nice project you put together there, but you pretty much pointed out the limitations already, which is exactly why Duo decided to not go that route.
One big point you forgot about entirely is input device isolation, a big sore point with Windows as a whole...
Most of Duo's hacks are needed simply because Windows provides no reliable way to isolate these.
MrColdbird
PowerControl / ryzenadj can circumvent it just fine on my unit.

Nope. Best device I've owned so far.
Runs cooler / more silent than competing devices, has a better speaker than the GPD Win 5, the OLED is gorgeous and I've had battery runtimes ranging from 90 hours minimum for triple A titles to 6+ hours for indie / light titles.
The weight is something you don't feel all that much because the device is balanced very well.
But it is, IMO, a home device and, while handheld, not portable.
IMO the best portable device is the GPD Win Mini, it strikes a good balance.
MrColdbird
CachyOS + InputPlumber + Steam Input, works fine on all my handhelds.

For PC games and anything before 6th gen emulation: off
For 6th gen+ emulation: on
Emulators benefit greatly from the boost while GPU heavy PC games don't.

I've fixed all of the CachyOS teething issues for the X2 Mini PRO on my own unit already and will publish the changes to inputplumber and so on soon.
MrColdbird
I'm running CachyOS on the X2 Mini PRO and so far I've gotten everything running except the two back buttons.
It does require a good amount of tinkering though.
I'll write a guide eventually but I haven't had all too much time with the device yet.
MrColdbird
Not sure about Windows but the Legion Go 2 gamescope panel configuration file some guy posted over on Reddit works great for SteamOS / Bazzite / CachyOS.
It fixes the broken brightness slider as a nice side-effect too.

Benchmarks have already shown that the X2 Mini has way better thermals than the X3 at the same TDP.
Not really a surprise given the way larger cooling solution.
In reality it doesn't matter though, as both chips remain in a thermal range that's safe to operate in.
One could argue that the X2 Mini will probably end up being the more silent device of the two, as long as one stays within a reasonable TDP range (25-45W).
MrColdbird
Coming from a development background I hate to tell you that the matter is a little more complicated than you might think.
The implementations that don't alarm defender are implemented in a custom BIOS and accessed via a WMI interface.
Using off-the-shelf parts, as is normal for the boutique handhelds from China usually goes hand in hand with an equal off-the-shelf BIOS, which leaves only register-based TDP controls on the table.
To set registers you need to go through a kernel driver, and Microsoft marked all of those unsafe this year because they give exactly that level of control.
Signing their own driver isn't an option either due to Microsoft's draconic kernel driver attestation signing requirements.
Things are tough in Microsoft kernel land right now...

Something's off here.
FF16 is a stutter-fest on my Mini.
MrColdbird
I'm Duo's developer and would appreciate it if you could get in touch via Discord so we can take a look at your issue together.
My Discord handle is black5eraph.
As for voicemeter. Disable the application's auto-start and you should be fine on that front.
MrColdbird
Sounds like cross-CCD latency.
Try disabling CCD1 in the BIOS and see if that solves the issue or not to confirm or deny this.
MrColdbird
We might be looking at contradicting data then.
I've been looking at Hubwood's data on Youtube for comparison as he seems to be the only guy out there to compare against the GPD Win 5 while also measuring > 35W TDP ranges in his test graphs.
MrColdbird
Not entirely true actually.
The FPS per W break-even point between the OXP3 and the X2 Mini Pro is way lower at just 25W TDP.
Anything >= 25W TDP will heavily favour the Ryzen chips, while anything below will swing in favour of the OXP3.
Furthermore, the Ryzen chips can't go below 13W TDP.
On top of that, the Ryzen chips scale very nicely all the way up to 55W before reaching diminishing returns and have way better Linux support at the time of writing, which makes them the way better option if you think about docking these devices.
MrColdbird
You don't need an external display but you lose performance headroom because of the framebuffer loopback if you use the integrated display.
On average you lose about 20% performance.
MrColdbird
I dual-booted Win 10 and CachyOS for a while and it ran fine.
I've long moved on from that to just CachyOS, but yes, it will work just fine.
MrColdbird
The update also causes HDR issues on remote display drivers. :(
MrColdbird
The 395+ is a fickle beast that requires attention to detail.
One wrong setting and the performance tanks.
If you ever do decide to feature 395+ data, do get in touch and I'll supplement whatever data you need.
MrColdbird
I'm running CachyOS on my Win 5 and it's flawless.
MrColdbird
Arc G3 Extreme Win Mini with ROG Ally X20 OLED? ;)
MrColdbird
I've got an ice machine that acts up all the time and every time it does I just say "time to buy a new one I guess" and it magically starts working again.
It's become a running gag in our home at this point.
MrColdbird
Got to put food on the table somehow.
MrColdbird
Someones asking the right questions.
Hopefully with OLED+VRR and a larger battery. :)
Xbox controllers are somewhat tricky in multi-seat environments because Microsoft's Xbox controller driver no longer officially supports it.
That change landed when they first shipped FSE via Windows Update and things have been a mess since then.
I'm working on a bit of code that should soften that blow a little, but unless Microsoft themselves fix their driver up there's not much I can do.
