That's an applet in the dock where you minimize an application and it remains in the dock as preview mode. You can safely remove that applet from the dock which is called minimize window applet.

Yup.. it is usable.

Go to cosmic store. In the applet section. Scroll down , you will see quick settings applet. Download and add to your panel. Position it to the end section. Remove unnecessary appets from panel. Done

Finally we can dive into blackhole..... !

Install papirus icon theme. Change the icon from settings. If you mean gnome like interface, install quick settings applet from store. Remove some applets from panel .

My laptop is 5 years old. I mean I am using it from last 5 years

Thank you.. I will setup nvidia no problem. My main concern was about SSDs life. I am expecting 5 years of life from that.

The first and foremost thing, it is in Alpha stage. So bugs are there. It cannot be considered as a complete desktop for daily diving. Either you have to install 22.04 and wait for the cosmic to become full featured desktop environment or find another distro.
