and equally why nations should not be ceding any authority to federal or provincial governments beyond what they need for non-indigenous self-government

I'm confused, why would you be electing band leaders? what business of that is yours?
Muskwatch
you act as a hereditary Chiefs are somehow undemocratic. maybe if you have a hereditary Chief over a whole nation, but in British Columbia. what you have is each family has business it has to take place, for example, managing their own specific territories, their own specific family relationships and relationships with other families and communities, and then you have larger decisions that require cooperation between those families, and and then people talk about it and democracy happens. Chief and Council have a pretty big say, but in a more than a few communities, Chief and Council have developed some sort of division of responsibilities over what decisions belong to them and what decisions belong to families. giving all the power to Chief and Council actually kills democracy, it would basically be like abolishing provincial governments and being governed only by the federal government. thank you. it would mean that smaller provinces would have no say.

you act as if changing DRIPA are getting rid of it changes Canadian law. all it did was basically State the provinc es commitment to existing Canadian law. there's nothing in it that wasn't already clearly stated in laws that we still just ignore.
Muskwatch
duty to consult is called democracy. it's called due process. getting rid of it is just a gravy train for big business.

I'm still a member of an SDA Church, I still think of myself as SDA, but I feel like the organization left me, not me leaving it. a lot of my friends who are no longer Adventist, still have all the beliefs that they valued, it's just that the official organization that wants to pigeon hole exactly how you are supposed to believe the things that you believe. I also bounce back and forth from being agnostic at times and then very much not at other times. The main attraction for me of this sub is that like many people of my generation and geographic area, the self-supporting movement did a lot of harm, and we spent a lot of time figuring out just why we disagreed with it so much, and how it messed people up so badly, and even though I am still an adventist at least on Reddit it seems like people here are the ones who understand that experience. and I know I'm not the only Adventist who frequents this sub because of the shared experience of dealing with legalistic authoritarians. just because we have dealt with that by being very specific about what our adventism is for us, and are still often dedicated members of our churches, albeit dedicated to making sure that our communities don't become legalistic authoritarian nodes of destruction, doesn't mean that we don't appreciate venting at times.

Persistence hunting was an annual thing with the Ulgatcho in Canada as well, each year the young guys would go and get a caribou, but the elders would choose which one to hunt. I also know that the one man from the Old Believer family who fled to Siberia for generations would persistence hunt reindeer barefoot in winter.... My suspicion is that humans aren't stupid, and can come up with other ways to hunt, like dig a hole where an animal can fall into it, and so on, but persistence hunting is more widespread than people believe.

I started with the lost continent and loved it so much that I read every book in the series. although I can still pretty confidently say that the lost Continent is one of my least favorite books in the whole series.

I left 2005, and am unwilling to go back now even to visit unfortunately. I treasured that period of my life and the friends I made, but most of them have moved as well.

so while some of this is as silly as you say, at the heart of the argument is often a defense of the western tradition in the Textus receptus, versus textus siniaticus and is couched in arguments that the latter is in parts subtly influenced by Gnostic ideas despite being older. while there is little argument that the textus receptus is only attested from later sources, the Gnostic influences of the texts used for modern translation are also arguably there. the King James is held up for being a translation. made the textus receptus, so while many people prefer or argue for King James of certain verses, they may still prefer reading the NIV just with some notes.

the dialect is Scottish English, as well as the Scots language, and in North America you hear "the wife" most often in area with high Scots migration, though not exclusively by any stretch. For people who don't use it, it sounds like you're saying, but for most people who do use it, it's not a loaded term at all. Though I'm sure it is for some.
Muskwatch
It's a dialect thing, not a disrespect thing. I say this as a linguist not as a person who speaks this way, though my parents do.

for hte most part, if you are sponsored, that might save some on gear costs, but most of those I know worked some season jobs and tried to put together 7-10 grand a year, more than enough to live on if you're living out of your vehicle or a tent. You need insurance, gas, gear, food, and the odd shower. your friends all live the same lifestyle, so it's normal. I love it.

by a guy in Victoria reviewing the paperwork. are you trying to argue something? I'm not following. Are you saying that because cities are home to government services, the reason we are able to set up and run our local non-profit is because of the 20minutes an auditor spent that was funded by taxpaper dollars, which come from cities?
Muskwatch
we run it through our local non profit because the big three wont invest in infrastructure.

I lived about a block from Nord Ost when this happened. This event was really what clarified to me that Russia is not a state governed by the rule of law. They went person to person and shot all the hostage takers. no arrests, no effort to interrogate, find out who was behind it, nothing. It made it pretty easy to assume that there was something being hidden.

Immoral.... whatever system your family has for an ongoing practice of engaging on questions of morality and spiritual/social development, please do it. I don't care if you're church of Satan, Catholic, Atheist, Jedi, whatever. It's better to engage with something and reject it than to arrive at adulthood without having asked these questions.

where you all learning Ukrainian? Many years ago all my Ukrainian friends taught me to speak Russia, now I'm just learning Ukrainian through reading the news and stuff, but I haven't come across any good books...

RDJ's version is by far my favourite, and I would love it if there were more

I think this is a cosmere option... so I selected everything.
Nuxalk Nation, Ulgatcho Nation, etc. and as to authority I mean authority over land or resources.
