The portal will be operating within a week. There's no requirement to register an event to conduct testing, similar to the NSFSB. You can start knocking out events now and submit results once complete.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

Should be up in the next week or so!

NFMGuy_Emeritus

Ayyyy good to hear!

NFMGuy_Emeritus

Congratulations on finishing!

Based on your current state, you should delay your PT test. Nothing wrong with that as the event really beats a lot of people up. My first one left me walking on the sides of my feet for 3 days...

Be sure to check out the new consolidated manual links under the skill badge program thread. Finishing different badge events will end up yielding Forsvaret medals which are authorized for wear.

For example once you complete the Norwegian Foot March, Norwegian Sports Federation Sports Badge, and Norwegian Swimming Federation Swimmer Badge you'll be able to submit a portal request for the Forsvaret Medalje for Feltsport / Norwegian Armed Forces Medal for Field Sports.

Successful finishes just need to be cumulative, not consecutive.

Submitted!

The portal should be up and running later this month.

Badges can only be acquired through here for the time being: https://www.idrettsbutikken.no/sv%C3%B8mmeforbundet/sv%C3%B8mmemerker?pageID=2

The NSSB is a discrete badge. Many moons ago ribbons for the badges existed but were removed.

The Norwegian Armed Forces Medal for Shooting can be worn on its own or with the NSSB. They're both unique.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

You don't have to. Each award is different and there is no limit on foreign ribbons according to 600-8-22. You can only wear one badge at a time though.

You have to conduct both the NSSB and NAIS tests to a certain standard.

The NAIS test was added to the embassy portal around two weeks ago and testing is administered under a global authority managed by a US-Norwegian team.

Testing operates in a cumulative fashion. Once you complete the requirements for the shooting medal, you are considered zeroed out. So if you somehow had 5 NSSB calendar completions and 1 NAIS, after the medal is awarded, you are at zero for both.

The medal is awarded according to a portal request where you have to upload certificates for both which we check against the global database.

It's absolutely a challenging event and gave it a damn good attempt looking at your distance and pacing. As others have remarked, the last third is the make or break period for participants and your experience is very common. Continue to focus on long endurance rucks and electrolyte balance strategies until you dial in what works well for you. Its absolutely doable and you'll get it!

Conducting the event at private or commercial ranges has the same approval process as one on post. There is no minimum event size or mandated weapon (so long as it belongs to the same group, e.g. 9mm pistol). You're still participating as a military entity and it is pretty common to do a range like this as reservists in Norway. Consequently the embassy regularly approves ranges conducted by military personnel at a civilian/private commercial facility.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

Then yes, given the type of unit those count.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

Generally yes under the structure of the testing process. However, remember the criteria is intended to apply to the general population. For military personnel the events should be calibrated to their abilities and training expectations. So 12mi x 3 might make more sense if you're talking about infantry units. The only real guidance on these is that it should be challenging for the individuals being tested whenever possible.

The Norwegian Sharpshooter and NAIS qualifications routinely occur at off-post and civilian ranges. The focus is on performing the events to their respective standards and Norewgian reservist organization often hosts their events wherever their able.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

I get a few messages every week about it. It is very bizarre.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

I'll have to inquire on this. We've only ever done it as single memos.

HRC has a premade MFR posted on their foreign awards page for it.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

For authorization to retain and wear or the redundant verification of completion?

Further details for the 2027 event will be published until late this year or early January. It will follow a similar procedure to what occurred for the 2026 event outlined here: https://www.reddit.com/r/army/comments/1svsrnx/2026_royal_danish_air_force_march_event/

If you're looking for other events to organizer, please take a look at this thread on the Norwegian skill badge program: https://www.reddit.com/r/army/comments/1w77xyj/royal_norwegian_embassy_skill_badge_program/

NFMGuy_Emeritus

By MFR, I was referring to an attestation MFR not the permanent retention and wear MFR. For some reason there's a persistent expectation that to process a foreign award an MFR signed by the event OIC or NCOIC verifying that the listed individual(s) in fact earned the award in question.

NFMGuy_Emeritus

Correct! Its incredibly accessible by design.
