That was the idea! I was thinking more along the line of Tediore guns from Borderlands. The gun is so bad and disposable you want throw it away

It is mostly drawing! I use an addon called Ucupaint. It allows you to work in layers like in substance painter and also to generate some useful textures proceduraly, like AO, curvature and others.

For the model i used a solid colour layer and then painted the colour variations, shadows and highlights. I also used an AO map and gradient texture to bring it all together
