Would love a referral code, thanks y'all!

NeilHummus

I'd really like an invite so I can engage over there. Thanks!

NeilHummus

Yupp, I was incorrectly thinking of aliases like #defines in C/C++, and assuming it just grabbed whatever text on the left and replaced it with what's on the right.

NeilHummus

That's good to know, thanks for the info. I'm finding myself partial to PanPipePlaya's suggested approach anyway now (vs. what I was trying to do initially), since it's easier to quickly visually distinguish between real transactions and ones that are just moving budgeted funds around.

NeilHummus

That blog post is the only reason I'm trying out Ledger in the first place, as a refugee from YNAB's recent price increase. The virtual-account style budgeting seems to get me exactly what I need.

I'll need to do some extra digging on hledger. A brief test with hledger shows that my ledger book is not compatible with hledger as-is, so I'd need to do some research to figure out why.

NeilHummus

This worked! Thank you!

Anyone ever have issues with the browser not accepting input? I can get the browser to load webpages via voice command, so it doesn't seem to be "frozen," but I can't get touch or keyboard inputs to work. The issue persists across all the entertainment apps as well.

I have tried all the reset options including "two button," "two button with brake," and "power off from console, wait a while, hit brake", but nothing seems to help.

The only time it has worked over the past week or so was right after installing an update. It worked for a while but the next time I tried the browser it was not accepting input again.

Probably unrelated, but I also don't get bluetooth audio from either my or my spouse's phones. Same behavior where it worked right after the update and then not again.

Any help is appreciated!

NeilHummus

We couldn't find it either, and miss it for the same exact reason.

I hope this is just an oversight with the update...

NeilHummus

Probably this one

NeilHummus

Oh shoot. Thanks! That's the first time the Model Y actually showed up as an option on the list of available cars to test drive.

NeilHummus

Test drive scheduled in Oregon? How'd you swing that? I've reached out a few times now and I get told they don't have the y for test drives yet.

NeilHummus

The base price has to be under 50k, not the final price of the car including trim level. Since the base price of the Y is ~41k (expected) for the standard range, it should qualify.

All trim levels of the model 3 qualify, including those with the final price above 50k.

NeilHummus

Excellent. Was concerned that they wouldn't actually add the Y until the Standard Range was available at the sub-$50,000 price point.

NeilHummus

That's probably correct, although I think all the electronics would have to be grounded to the fuselage. I'm less sure about that since my day to day work is pretty heavily tailored towards the electronics themselves. Like all other aspects of aviation, there is probably loads of redundant safety precautions, I was just speaking to the electronics. So the people saying the airframe is built like a Faraday cage are probably also right.

And no, I do not work for Collins.

NeilHummus

I have some experience with this, as I work for a company that designs avionics. When we design a new product, the electronics are all designed in a way that they could withstand a lightning strike. There have been multiple studies conducted on the electrical characteristics of a lightning strike when it hits an airplane, so we know what we need to design for.

When we test our products, we also will simulate lightning strikes to the product to show that our design is sound. These simulated lightning strikes are often done directly to individual pins on the back connectors of the avionics. Typically each pin will have special circuitry designed for this to redirect current from the important parts of the unit.

This is in addition to a bunch of other testing we have to do to show that in crazy environmental conditions, the avionics will continue to function as expected. The funny thing is that we subject the avionics to conditions that would definitely kill the pilot and everyone on board the airplane (like being inside a giant microwave), but the avionics would continue to function and the plane would still be operable.

NeilHummus

You are correct. Sprouting means "to begin to grow." So yeah, a couple weeks doesn't seem like a long time to sprout.

Merry Christmas!

CPU: What's the major difference between the 1500x and 1600? Never mind. Should google stuff before asking.

MB: How about this: Slightly cheaper still https://pcpartpicker.com/product/c2DzK8/msi-b350-pc-mate-atx-am4-motherboard-b350-pc-mate

RAM: How about: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BYH48d/corsair-memory-cmk8gx4m2b3000c15

PSU: Swapped.

The old Portland airport carpet, to be exact. The only reason it became such a big "thing" was because they were replacing it.
