Very much a Louise Belcher move.

4 million people live on Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver. 1 million people live "beyond Hope."

NevinThompson

...Okay, Boomer?

NevinThompson

You have obviously never seen your friend run down in a crosswalk. Or seen the blood on the pavement after a person in a wheelchair was run down in a crosswalk.

NevinThompson

Lol, oh, I see, you are the history explainer. Only you understand. Right, got it. The rest of us have to accept this Nazi shit in our community. Because you are so very smart.

NevinThompson

Harder to wake up, more dangerous for kids to walk to school.

NevinThompson

“Magnets, how do they work”

NevinThompson

It is pretty precise, actually. It's why we have the Hubble Constant, as just one example.

NevinThompson

Sadly, at 4.5B years, we are in the middle age of our solar system. We are in the late middle age, early old age of life on Earth, which has been around for 3.8B years. However, only 1B years remain until our star, the Sun, because too hot for life on our planet.

On the bright side, the last mass extinction was only 66M years ago. So, we could have another 15 mass extinctions in the remaining billion years of life on Earth. Each one could produce another Elon Musk as the pinnacle of evolution.

Fernwood (e.g., go up Grant, come down Vining, go up Gladstone, come down Pembroke). Oaklands (use Haultain @ Belmont as your home base, do the side streets nearby).

NevinThompson

Typical American.

While rock and roll and jazz had dominated the 50s, by the early 60s it was folk music that was popular music. Dylan breathed life back into the genre. The Beatles were obviously doing pop and rock music at the time, but Dylan was innovative in terms of his lyrics, his approach to going electric, his look, everything.

Nobody outside of your country likes seeing American service personnel, bud. Assault, murder, rape, mayhem. And that's just when they're in uniform.

NevinThompson

I used to live in a country that has a large American military presence: navy, air force, marines. You'd see these large acne-spotted American dolts in their ill-fitting BDUs in the airport or out and about. Or dressed like teenagers in oversize jorts, Nike high tops and some sort of t-shirt with a snack food logo or something. Creepy AF. And then you go to the Philippines, and it's an overweight 60-something version cruising for "girls." Don't need them in Victoria.

NevinThompson

"Nobody wants to pay taxes." What? Who do you think pays your GD pension?

NevinThompson

WTF. Are you a troll? Why don't you go find a nice retirement spot in Aberdeen or Kent or something, which seems more suitable to your personality? You obviously don't like Victoria.

NevinThompson

Never had that experience.

NevinThompson

Weird. It's too bad that happened. There is no "hood" in Victoria, although the epicentre of the toxic drug crisis / unhoused crisis is Pandora and Quadra.

Just a quick note: This is not the United States. Self-defense is proportionate in our country. If you were able to retain your phone you are not entitled to punch people in the back of the head if they are running from you.

Curious: why don't you just try to find a nice place in Port Angeles? It's a rain shadow, similar climate to Victoria. Probably a better cultural fit, given proximity to Kitsap?

NevinThompson

Really? That's odd. How were they trying to steal your phone?

I ask because I shoot night scenes all over Victoria, typically in industrial areas with some pretty expensive camera gear and this has never happened to me. Ever. In fact, the other night I was shooting the asphalt plant at Rock Bay and was chatting with some homeless people there.

I've also shot in Bushwick, Washington Heights, Oakland, South of Market, KC, Tulsa, south Boston, Seattle International District, Yonge and College etc etc etc and have never had a problem with someone trying to steal my gear.

NevinThompson

What does "not in the hood" mean, I wonder?

NevinThompson

The who, the what? And what is "Vancouver Island Trade Directory"? It looks like a Boomer slop site. And why is an "island directory" reporting on K-town politics?

NevinThompson

John Mulaney hates bike lanes.

Bill Hader > John Mulaney.

NevinThompson

No, the issue is sweat and oil from the fingers interacting with the grip. Not fingernails.

NevinThompson

I don't think pedestrian struck by a vehicle would regard it as winning the lottery.

If you've never had a serious injury, you have really no idea what you're talking about.

NevinThompson

Meanwhile, in the real world:

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/03/03/new-westminster-pedestrian-hit-icbc/

Since the start of no-fault, injured pedestrians have had to fight tooth and nail to get properly compensated. All the while trying to recovering from grievous bodily injury:

https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/bc-court-overturns-ruling-that-found-pedestrian-90-liable-for-crosswalk-crash/

Initially, a cyclist or pedestrian struck by a motorist was billed by ICBC for damage their own body made to a car etc:

https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/icbc-wont-bill-injured-cyclists-or-pedestrians-for-damage-done-to-vehicles-in-crashes-5331731

These are just examples. BC averages about 3,265 pedestrian-involved crashes each year, which result in roughly 2,350 injuries and 55 fatalities annually.

No fault literally adds insult to injury.
