Can you blame people who aren't attracted to men not understanding what makes men attractive?

Even the post below this one isn't really clear - what makes eyes "lovely" or a smile "mysterious"? I don't get it.

I predict Inde Navarette will be amazing but the writers won't be ambitious enough with the material they give her (similar situation to Connor Storrie)

Baby Geniuses

I think he's now considered one of the co-lead singers now but Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor. The Motherload comes to mind as a song he does well, especially considering the drum part he does at the same time.

I think he would have voted for Kerry in 2004. Even as a dumb young man he was able to overlook the emotions of losing his own father in a plane crash to make a hard nosed career decision. I don't think he would have been swept up in the emotions of 9/11 and so would have been against Bush and the Iraq War even when it was popular.

She was born in 1892, which means SNL has had hosts both born in the 1800s and born in the 2000s (e.g. Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo).

Labor would have won Mayo at the 2022 and 2025 elections in a head to head vs the Liberals.

Trump got a lot of momentum in 2016 calling the Iraq War a "big fat mistake" and generally signalling a move past the Bush era (as he dunked on his brother).

Kamala Harris got the endorsement of quite a few Bush Era Republicans and all it seemed to do was piss off Democrats.

I think Trump wins

Of course, do not go gently into the good night, don't comply in advance, celebrate wins, and so on. My silver lining was America's many tiers of government with local and state government being quite powerful. That was shaken big time by ICE earlier this year but MN also fought back in an inspiring way

Is it though? I'm holding out hope for the midterms but America's supposed checks and balances have been a real let down over the past 2 years

That's a valid interpretation and I don't want to take anything away from it

IIRC in the early days Breaking Bad was seen as a dark comedy - like Weeds but with meth instead of weed.

I love how he had a long and fruitful career with Megadeth, beyond what most musicians accomplish, only for his final song on his final album to be a Metallica cover. His final musical statement is "by the way I'm still a bitter asshole who never got over being kicked out of a band 40 years ago".

Edit : Yes I know Dave Mustaine originally wrote Ride the Lightning, but unlike "mechanix" vs "four horsemen", Megadeth's Ride the Lightning sounds very similar to the Metallica version

"Folk era"/Clean high-pitch voice: Ladies of the Canyon

"Jazz era"/Medium-pitch cigarette  voice: Hissing of the Summer Lawns

A few songs where I only listen to the live versions:

Geese's performance of Trinidad on SNL.

Spain at Eurovision 2024 (Zorra by Nebulossa).

Bring it on Home by Led Zeppelin

For what it's worth ALP and now UK Labour seem to be at least starting to move past neoliberalism. Both with framing (look at Andy Burnham's speeches) but also policies like Labor's industrial bailouts.

On the other hand you have Mark Carney in Canada sounding very patriotic and defiant while announcing that he's cutting corporate taxes and privatising Canada's airports, using language of unlocking investment to stick it to the US.

Big business had a pretty good thing going with the neoliberal consensus.

But various shocks and Trump getting elected (especially the 2nd time) convinced them that maybe they didn't even need to make the small compromises they've been making. Things like the ESG and DEI fig leaves, or compliance with long standing regulation.

So they've been financially backing the kind of low information resentment politics that lets them do that. This is especially the case for businesses that thrive on chaos - more traditional businesses will still have a bet each way but oligarchs, foreign governments and market manipulators stand to gain the most from far right politics.

It's not just the anglosphere either - look at the rise of the AFD in Germany and FN/RN in France.

But it's not all doom. Australia and Canada both dodged bullets in 2025. Farage seems to be petering out in the UK. The upcoming NZ election could go either way. Community still has power.

Your point about the Greens at the end there is a 17 year old bit of low context misinformation at this point - I don't see any other alternate history arguments that depends on so many moving parts get taken seriously in politics. The Greens have exactly one MP still in office that was there in 2009. It's basically like judging Labor for having Mark Latham as leader or opposing same sex marriage at this point.

We had a carbon tax for a few years  as part of a broader package with a few lasting legacies. There's no evidence that Rudd's very weak one would have had any more political staying power than the one that did pass. For example, keep in mind that the Liberals in 2025 decided to oppose their own net zero policy from 2019. Why would they have any more respect for Kevin Rudd's?

The Greens have helped pass every single thing Labor has put forward on climate since they got back to power in 2022 but that doesn't seem to linger in anyone's memory like 2009.

I think it's because referencing 2009 is a permission structure for people who don't like the Greens (because for example they're kind of annoying and cringe) to justify not voting for them. Even if you deeply care about issues where they're right and Labor is wrong,  you can maintain a sort of defeatist assumption that the Greens would screw the good policy up somehow so you may as well keep voting Labor.

And honestly, the Greens really do seem like the kind of immature party that would bungle governing. I feel this even though I know from the ACT that they're capable of doing the job (the Labor only government is noticeably worse than the previous Labor-Greens power sharing government). It's a hard assumption to fight.

But I see it as a microcosm of the deeply frustrating vibes politics that's driving the far right vote that ignores Labor's accomplishments which this post is about.

TL;DR - you're doing to The Greens what you accuse the media of doing to Labor

Beecher never really forgave himself for Kathy Rockwell. He told the judge who felt guilty about being too harsh on him to shove it.

There was one of those YouTube channels (pluffnub) where they ruin songs. For "cold as ice" the guy pitched down and desynced the rest of the instruments. But it still sounded great, solely because Lou Gramm's vocal performance is that powerful and can carry the song.

Invincible Shield by Judas Priest seems to have universal acclaim, even if it's more about how they've "still got it".

Which is why he should have disclosed it. Let the other creators decide beforehand whether they accept that he's grown and changed and can handle the heat of it coming out eventually.

It would potentially be a different situation if his channel was "Morbid Games" or something and he never did a face reveal. He can work in the creative field. I consume lots of media made by unrepentant assholes and criminals way worse than him.

But he decided to put himself front and centre. He chose to become a public figure and turn his personality into a brand, knowing that this might come up some day. "The guy" is part of the content and now there's a dark undertone to it when he's on screen (and not in his usual way).

If you have done something horrible in the past, some people will accept that you've grown and changed, and some people won't. In private life, I can imagine that being a different journey with all the people close to him as part of a process of building trust.

But in public life, the people who have to decide whether they accept him includes his audience and collaborators with reputations of their own to defend. Now everyone who works with him has to answer for him, and I can see enough creators thinking they'd rather not. It's also reputational risk he didn't disclose to people he worked with, which is a shitty thing to do.

I thought the scene where the reality of an adult sleeping with a teenager hits was done well. Shows that it's creepy and exploitative, and crosses the line into sexual assault. At a certain point the fact that you're dealing with a child will become apparent and it should give most normal people the ick.

I'd like to see more modern movies explore that so there's no ambiguity for anyone in society that ephebophiles are not normal, they're predators and losers.
