This problem was on my laptop. Couldn't really fix it. Turning off GLSL compatability did terrible things to ground tiles for me. The best I could do was to turn off all animations.

Since I don't really use the laptop for wurming I didn't really look into it.

You generally won't actually see other players running around unless you're in a high-traffic area (which are few), stumble across something interesting going on, or wander into an active deed that isn't walled off. Unless you're in an active village, a lot of the interaction is through the chat windows.

If you ever feel like giving it another go then give us a shout on Pristine.

As far as the Reddit village, it is just DKSprocket and myself right now (and i'm actually working on my own place a little ways away). We are in the Wurm Academy alliance, though. So there'll be a fair number of people to talk to. They're also very new player friendly.

You might even be able to bounce around some of the villages depending on what you want to do.

If you join the Pristine server, send Dent, DKSprocket, or Serraphine a message. One of us is usually on at any given time. (Serraphine isn't with Reddit, but will probably invite you to the Academy if DK or I aren't on).

Very laggy, but not overly laggy for a test. There were 10 or so different spawns. Test server, so you could spawn armor, weapons, and resources. Seemed like Rolf was zipping about checking things out and spawning creatures.

Map seemed huge, but a lot of my time was spent with my nose in the dirt trying to find a branch to make a crude pickaxe so I didn't explore much.

No, not really. The capability is there, as the GMs can force a name change if your name is something offensive, but it's highly unlikely that they'd do it if you put in a /support.

If your skills are still really low and you don't like your name then your only options are to make a new one or buy one from someone else

Not sure who you are in the game. If you're with us on Pristine, it's probably the player/item bloat around the Academy which we're pretty much right up against.

If you haven't tried already, I'd suggest trying to turn your graphics down. Particularly the options affecting render distance.

If that doesn't work, try spending some time at the Harbor or Retreat and see if that helps at all. Also, are you using the latest version of your video card drivers? Latest java update?

Yeah, dksprocket did some advertising in several of the gaming subreddits in an attempt to garner interest in the release of 1.0. This subreddit serves a more niche purpose, however. It's a place for people who might be interested in playing with a group of redditors on a single server.
