that's good to know though, maybe I should upgrade to RAID sooner than later ;')

NotXenon

same leaker who thought Haven was in China

NotXenon

I mean 兔人兔 for example would be Tù Rén Tù

Also Japanese doesn't really have a "tu" sound unless you do something like 「テゥー」or just "tsu"

Sorry this is a bit late (photo attached lmk if you can't see it)

I'ma have to be real I don't think I've ever consciously thought about how to design an office space like this. The more I experimented with stuff the more I realized how much space is actually in this room.

If I'm understanding what your current setup is correctly, I feel like I mostly ended up going in the same direction instinctively.

My idea was to kinda separate the office into two sections: your space, and the "people" space. I feel like the vibes are better if you're sat at your desk where you can see people entering the office, and sitting closer to where you might see light coming in is probably nicer for human sanity. I really didn't know what to do with the rest of the area along the top and right walls though. Maybe you don't need anything too crazy going on there, just some shelving, cabinets, more table surfaces to decorate (with your pokemon cards ofc), etc. Alternatively if the light by the window is too much, you could probably horizontally flip the positioning of the desk to the right side of the room. Maybe having empty space isn't such a bad thing though. Gives you space to walk around and not feel claustrophobic. I put an ottoman next to the desk to make the entrance to your half of the office feel slightly smaller--to make make it feel less like it's just open space for anyone else to walk into. There's ottomans that open up and have hidden storage inside, so you could put whatever the heck large items in there if you need.

bit late here but could you shed any light into how you expect to utilize this space? eg) are you gonna be inviting others into your office for smaller meetings, or is it all to yourself? are you gonna need space for your own drink station, or is that covered by an office kitchen, etc... It looks like you're working with a decently large space for an office, so you can probably fit quite a bit

NotXenon

how have you managed to create a gif so fast from an episode that's only been out for one day

NotXenon

holy hell I knew this sub would not disappoint, it was indeed Batch of Secrets THANK YOU now to perhaps order some more...

I guess I must've misheard/misremembered "Halton" as "Hamilton" woopsies

I'm going to assume not, they weren't an established brand or anything and it was just the two of them behind the whole operation. I have been to the night baker though and they are quite very good.

But thank you!

NotXenon

good point I have not tried that yet, I see they have public messages enabled too, so maybe I'll try that, thanks!

Very lowkey spot a vegan friend took me once. As a non-vegan/vegetarian, I was actually very surprised at how flavourful and meat/fish-like the food tasted.

NotXenon

sorta late to the convo but it's also not that far from Zhangjiajie, sometimes known as the "Avatar mountains" so if you're ever thinking of visiting them, Changsha might be a nice major nearby city to check out

Not exactly an answer to your question, but why do you want to learn Chinese? My personal experience with learning anything is that you either need a very strict regimen, or you need a really strong passion that motivates you to keep going.

On the topic of characters, I honestly do suggest learning them sooner than later. You will seldom find pure pinyin in real Chinese text, whether online, in books, or on signs, etc. Furthermore you'll quickly find yourself at a wall when you realize that there's multiple words with the same pinyin which without hanzi you'd have to guess the meanings of through context and inference.

it feels like I'm just copying their shape rather than actually writing

I feel this though, Chinese is just so damn brutal if you're picking it up without some kinda early childhood exposure to the language. "Yeah just memorize these 2000 different symbols" yeah ok sure man

Another suggestion I have is to find an actual Chinese-speaking language partner. Set up a few sessions where you just talk. Don't even find a teacher, just find a buddy--someone you'll actually have fun talking to. Personal experience: those fun memories of speaking to someone else in their language has a huge impact on your learning. You're recalling information and memories from moments of happiness rather than moments of dullness from reading a textbook (unless you like that, then that probably works better).

All in all, make it fun for yourself!

well tbf I feel like if we're comparing japanese food in japan to japanese food in toronto, everything is gonna lack a bit of oomph

I'd be curious to try the OG Ikkousha ramen in Fukuoka to see how different it tastes from the branches here.

NotXenon

Curious because I've seen this conversation pop up everywhere:

What sorts of things are you trying to download from whichever Git platforms these devs are sending you to?

In my mind as a coder, GitHub was never supposed to be used as the "distribution" layer for any software, but it seems like nowadays lots of regular people/end-users are getting sent there.

NotXenon

not super important but PRX should probably have the Singaporean flag instead of the Indonesian flag

NotXenon

Personally really liked it the two times I went. Very authentic Sichuan flavours. My personal favorite is the hot and sour sweet potato noodles. Fore-warning that it's decently spicy and numbing if you're not used to those flavours, but you probably already know that if you're considering this place at all xd

Fun trivia I remember about this place is that there was some Chinese review talking about how they were made to "喷射" after eating here so make of that what you will

NotXenon

I feel like right now in general, baggier, oversized clothing is the thang

NotXenon

Would be interested in playing around with the dataset :0

NotXenon

well would you look at that

NotXenon

Honestly the comments just read kinda funny with the regular candid tone and then "Oh by the way I made my bet on Stake®"

NotXenon

also from the future and also wondering

NotXenon

well well and well

I'm more interested in those goggles embedded in the beanie cause wtf
