I gave up on the first season. All the beats felt wrong for the comedy, like this was adapted by someone who doesn't think any of it was funny to begin with. Like the whole thing with the sanitation workers gassing the crows and finding needles in garbage bags is just adapted slavishly from the manga, like nobody knew what to do with it, it just needed to be in there. At points it felt like an AI had made the storyboards by being fed the manga.

It's a shame because I liked the animation and adaptation of the character designs.

The point is that a real fairytale is from oral tradition. When HC Andersen wrote The Snow Queen and The Little Mermaid he himself called them "kunsteventyr", artificial fairy tales, meant to evoke those oral traditions collected by people like the brothers Grimm.

I really wish the romance plot hadn't been forcibly expanded in the movie when they realized they'd made it "too gay". It's so tacked on, they play that Berlin song like two more times because they didn't wanna get more music.

Also just from a current day perspective, the dogfights just aren't very exciting with how obvious all the safety concerns are, so they are cut really obnoxiously. Wish we could just see more of the wing cameras, have more long range engagements instead of the painted on cannon bullets.
