Worth it.

I'm not suggesting there's not life elsewhere, I'm just saying that there's no basis for estimating that probability. It could be nearly certain, or it could be infinitesimal.

And no, we definitely can't put reasonable ranges on estimates around all the terms in the Drake Equation. We can make no meaningful estimates of the probability of abiogenesis, or the likelihood that simple life will develop into intelligent life. One data point is insufficient, and without those terms the Drake Equation offers no insight.

If you disagree, can you please provide your estimates for the values of those terms, and how you mathematically arrived at those values?

Shut your lying mouth! Good & Plenties and Necco wafers are amazing!

Next you'll be saying that Jujyfruits aren't the pinnacle of sugary goodness.

I would spend $100 to upgrade on a long flight. I wouldn't spend $1000, so it never happens.

That's the brilliant part: food has gotten so expensive, it's cheaper to get the GLP-1 and eat less!

I tried that, but the counselor made a big deal about needing a partner first.

Some people also have a hard time distinguishing between weaponized incompetence and plain old regular incompetence, which is much, much more common.

It's tempting to believe that, but it's hard to make an actual mathematical case to support it.

True, the observable universe is very large, but we have no idea how likely life is to form. Maybe it's so unlikely that the size of the universe doesn't even make up for it.

Go to the moon, you'll immediately lose 83% of your body weight.

Divorce diet works even better.

It's not because radiation grows stronger the farther you are from the sun, it's because Jupiter has an insanely strong magnetic field that pulls in and focuses energetic particles emitted by the sun.

Supermassive black holes are, well, supermassive, but not so supermassive that they hold their host galaxies together.

If you removed the black hole at the center of the Milky Way, for instance, most stars wouldn't really notice, other than the ones very close to it.

I think that's definitely one of the best scenes in the show, maybe the very best, but I think Cranston's single best performance is the "say my name" scene.

If you compare his presence there to the first episode, it's astonishing. He somehow makes you believe that, yes, this middle aged guy with a porkpie hat absolutely did cow a hostile drug dealer into saying his name like a little bitch, just to show he could.

The number of people on Reddit who seem to be unaware of the existence of sarcasm continually baffles me.

Janos Slynt had friends in court, though.

Different characters, different story, different setting, different mechanics, even different aesthetics. Regardless of how good or bad the game was, it may as well have been a totally different franchise. There was barely anything at all to connect it to the game everybody loved, which continues to baffle me.

There's usually (but not always) some kind of supernatural aspect to zombies that makes it hard to apply actual science to them. If nothing else they tend to ignore the laws of thermodynamics.

My problem with exotic toppings, and especially non-standard cheeses and sauces, isn't whether people like them -- a lot of them sound delicious!

But at some point what you're describing is a flatbread, not a pizza.

I just wish there was somebody I could root for in this clusterfuck.

Oh, it wasn't always. She never knew how to pick her battles, and it made her unhappy a lot of the time. But I admired the impulse.

Number127

She always fought the good fight. She stuck up for the underdogs, and she absolutely would not suffer a bully.

What helped me is when I realized that how I feel before I run bears almost no relationship to how I feel while I'm running. I can be utterly exhausted and the last thing I want to do is start moving my legs, but once I get my heart rate up, it's entirely possible that I'll have a great run.

Once I got that through my thick skull, I realized that feeling crappy wasn't a reason not to get out the door -- and, in fact, getting out the door could very well be the solution to feeling crappy. All I had to do was take the first few steps, and then I'd be feeling better.

I had to go to four different dictionaries before I found one with that definition of "poodle."

Man, I really lucked into picking the right green and yellow, judging from all the other comments.
