I've also kept mine alive for years with different care.

Venus Fly Traps are native to the Carolinas, living in nutrient poor bogs. They need a lot of light and don't really need to be "fed". If you have hard water or high total dissolved solids, you probably want to avoid tap water.

I've had success keeping the bottom of the plant in a tray of water. NYC has very soft tap water and with TDS < 50, room temp water works fine for my carnivorous plants.

As the hours of sunlight decrease and the temperatures drop, they can go into a dormancy period over the winter. The traps and leaves will wither, leaving just the rhizome to store energy. In these cooler temps with less water, they'll overwinter and bounce back in the spring time.

If you can keep your traps warm and provide lots of light through the winter, they might not go dormant.

It's because they have so little effective power that they ignore cars. There's one on my commute that legit yells and confronts cyclists for stopping after the crosswalk but before the intersection. They'll also ignore cars doing the same or blowing through lights.

By NYC code, they actually have a fair amount of power. But they never get to actually exercise it so the bad ones do nothing and the horrible ones rage when they can.

The NYC DOT schedule for Brooklyn can be found here and isn't too hard to read: https://nycstreets.net/PavementWorks/Project/WeeklyResurfacingSchedule/B

For Monday and Tuesday night it says:

B202402007 IHR JAY STREET between TILLARY STREET and FULTON STREET

PAVING IN-HOUSE NIGHT 302

Area: DUMBO-Vinegar Hill-Downtown Brooklyn-Boerum Hill

B202502003 IHR JAY STREET between MANHATTAN BRIDGE and TILLARY STREET

PAVING IN-HOUSE NIGHT 302

Area: DUMBO-Vinegar Hill-Downtown Brooklyn-Boerum Hill

So Jay St is going to be paved in two sections, north of Tillary St and south of Tillary St. They even break it down to the block. It's being done by in house by NYC DOT and not subcontracted out.

You can see that the 302 crew is doing both sections and they're also scheduled to do the second section the following day. They finished the first half overnight Monday and are finishing the second half overnight Tuesday.

When you see the milling happening it's a couple of weeks before the paving. Then its a couple of weeks more before lines and bike lanes get painted in.

Buffets and fine dining? The shows? The immersive Sphere? Different musicians that have residencies there? I think in November you have Metallica, Backstreet Boys, Eagles, LISA, Marc Anthony and more all having residencies out there. It's also a hub to visit the Hoover Dam, or even Death Valley and Zion.

There are also ripple effects from the mass firings by Reagan.

The air traffic controllers went on strike in the early 80s. Reagan declared it illegal and ordered them back to work. Some refused and 10,000+ were fired and blacklisted, creating a shortage. When their replacements hit mandatory retirement, you had another shortage.

Creepiest was being outside during peak COVID. NYC always has people out, either on mass transit or in trains. But it was deserted. As an "essential worker" it was eerie being out in broad daylight with no one in sight. Quieter too. It felt like a scene out of a post-apocalyptic movie at times.

I'd suggest looking less at cheap ebikes and more at stealthy ones. Something like a Ride1Up Roadster V3 or Veltoric T1 ST can easily pass for a regular bike. Then make it look like a beat up bike with tape/stickers/basket/milk crate. Finally lock it with multiple locks, a good u-lock on the frame and rear wheel, a decent chain on the frame and front wheel. You can add a motion sensor alarm for cheap -- I think the combo automatic rear light / alarm I bought was < $25.

And have a decent plan for when it gets stolen. If it's locked up outside, it will eventually.

Surprisingly few in NYC. There are more covering this parking lot than in all of Manhattan.

I guess there are lots more NYPD, red light, and traffic cams up elsewhere.

A quick Google search suggests that the moisture content in commercial dry cat food is comparable to that of dry uncooked rice. Neither is very hospitable to growth from any contaminants during its expected shelf life after being moved to the container.

From memory, breakdancing had no business being in the Olympics. A ballroom dance federation wanted to get ballroom dance into the Olympics. They had no chance. So they pirouetted to breakdancing and pushed it as being their dance in the Olympics. Breakdancers were caught by surprise and needless to say the overlap in ballroom dance and breaking communities wasn't huge. And that's how we get Raygun competing for Australia.

And there'll be no breakdancing in the next Olympics. No ballroom dance either.

I'm with you -- it's the least favorite part of my commute. Too many people avoided it by riding on the sidewalk. I look forward to smooth asphalt.

My hot take: It's great if you're looking for a random part, supply, or thing, especially if you know what it looks like outside of a box with no label. Wear clothes you can get dirty and gloves too. A good flashlight is helpful. You're not going to find a newer bike or a commuter ready to go. Stuff has been picked over but if you're willing to climb up ladders, navigate 35 years of junk, to open up a random box from a pile, you might find something to buy. The guys there are friendly and pretty helpful.

They're a month ahead by design. They sit because after the streets are milled, utilities and other projects that need to happen beneath the street get those weeks to work. After it's paved, DOT puts out a street cut moratorium for 5 years.

It's different teams milling, paving, and painting. Painting happens in a different department. No one's sitting idle by design -- they're just all working in different parts of the city.

I could maybe see the pig and fish thing as a misunderstanding of Jewish practices.

The lady learned that Kosher meat is made Kosher in part by removing the blood while slaughtering the animal (shechita). Except for pigs because pork isn't Kosher. That must mean you can't remove the blood from pigs because pigs have no blood. And fish can be made Kosher without removing blood, so fish must not have blood either.

A totally bizarre world-view but it makes "sense" that way.

I think KAT being in foul trouble with stupid fouls didn't help any. Drummond played way too much in the first half and looked gassed in the second half. I'd much rather have seen KAT on the floor during most of Drummond's minutes and had a more even game as a result.

Anchovies are super high in glutamates that give you that savory umami flavor. Tomatoes are also high in glutamates. Parmesan cheese is high in glutamates. Anchovies also have lots of inosinate when combined with the glutamates in that cheese and sauce synergize making your pizza even more savory.

Cover the pizza in anchovies and it'll taste horrible. Add the right amount and it's amazing.

I think it's the idea moving from a 4.5 million knife to finding a ideal drop for her use worth 28 million. It's one thing to sell stuff for party profit and another to keep expensive drops for personal use.

Towing isn't going to happen if all of the cars parked there are law enforcement and court officers. Absent Jersey barriers, they'll continue to park there without any consequences.
