Read my comment above. Yes, always have bear spray.

I’ll assume you’re not from griz country and yes I always have my bear spray ready. Here’s the thing, if you stumble into a griz and its startled bear spray will do enough to deter the bear because it has nothing to defend. Popping a bullet or 5 in him will do nothing but give him a reason to kill you because you just caused him harm and are now deemed a threat. When you go back for your second load of elk and find a bear on it you bet he’s going to defend that carcass like his life depends on it because he’s packing on calories for winter hibernation. Hope that answers your question and gives you insight.

I have the simple vortex and have my binos, wind bottle, range finder…some casks on me. Bear spray is on my hip and side arm is in my pack until I go back for another load because if there’s a bear defending something it will be on the elk carcass. This system works good for me. What state are you guiding in?

😂 snack pack!

I’m in Montana and agree but I have a basic vortex for binos, range finder, and puff bottle. I have a side arm but it’s in my pack until I go back for my second load in case bears are lingering. It came up in my feed for some reason and couldn’t help myself but post it 😂

Yes to upgrading the components! It’s easier on the wallet and then when you purchase you can swap everything out and trade in your current. That’s what I did

ODarrow

I agree with you for whitetail. In my state (Montana) they’ve been trying to get them legalized as bows for years but it’s far different when you’re then able to hunt a rutting elk out to 120 yards with no practice.

Made this comment and then read the others saying basically the same thing. 🤣

Drop your weight to something very easy to pull and slowly get the muscle memory and as you do work your weight up to hunting weight. Too many people with awful draw cycles on here with too much weight just waiting for a shoulder injury. Have fun!

ODarrow

Was it a heritage muzzleloader or could you use an inline? About To sight mine in for the first time…how far out do you get them zeroed to?

ODarrow

No, that plastic is going to break and fast especially in cold temps. Sorry buddy!

ODarrow

That’s what I did with my bear…upgraded my components and then made a step up to a bowtech carbon Zion after 5-6 years. Just makes sense to come into a new sport sensibly but I’m an idiot 😂

The best cheapest kit I’ve found

Big creek…

Perfect first set up!! All these people grabbing a flagship bow as their first are insane.

I bought my 2001 4.0 3 years ago with 48k miles for $6200. I would say that is a beyond wild price!!!

ODarrow

Could put a shot gun up there 😂

ODarrow

Pronghorn are pretty fun! What state are you in?

ODarrow

Yup, big hail
