Is it just in 2000s shonen tho? Even these days most shonens still fumble their female characters.

Beatbreak is overall good, but so, so, so much suffers from poor planning.
- A lot of the designs seems undercooked. Reina and Makoto's megas in particular looks like something out of a cheap Isekai show, Atratusmon and Albatusmon just being palette swaps of each other, Volvemon being temu-Omegamon. Even some of the ultimates, Bearcatmon is really lackluster even among "women in costumes" Digimons, Monarchlizarmon is rehashed Metalgreymon. Some of these could really be so much better with some minor details added, like adding Pristimon's stripes to Artiomon's armor, a sniper cloak to Nosferamon, and just the usual belts and spikes.
- A lot of characters feel underbaked. From Reina to Five Stars, Tactics and Wong, all hyped up only to never truly deliver. They put all the sauce into Klay, then left everyone starving.
- The show's delivering on themes are lackluster. The show promised a theme about class inequality from the beginning, and, Wong is literally built up as a tech billionaire archetype, yet all we ever did of that theme was show Makoto's bro and Shademon's tamer being snobs who got a change of heart immediately. How did they fumble this part so bad?
- The tagline of Digimon being born from human emotions, yet I think the only time any Digimon actually attempts to manipulate human emotions to their end was Mummymon for.....some reason? Again, Wong literally is the big tech big bad, Sanzomon want an energy source for Digimons and GIFT is a goddamn cult, the plot of them using Sapotama's social medias and misinformation to manipulate human emotions are LITERALLY RIGHT THERE and none of them ever tried it.
- Kyo carried the team way too long into the story. Yes, Murasamemon should've died way quicker, like halfway through, to actually give time for the kids to grow out of their daddy's shadow.
- The ending felt way too safe. Everyone getting their deleted partners back, Sanzomon just getting away without any further retribution while the rest of the Saiyu Warriors are apparently just absolved of all their crimes since now they're babies.
- And the general, a lot of filler episodes that could've been used to flesh out the otherwise other underbaked characters.
Yes, the throughline seems to be that Beatbreak was overall an poorly planned show that had to be written as it airs without a proper endgame set from the beginning. It's still a serviceable show, but could've been so, so much better if only the writers had a set end goal to aim for instead of just building in the dark.

Omegamon's design stands out more because of the color rather than because of the details. The blue and yellow arms with white body just makes him iconic the same way you'd register any armored character with blue chest, red stomach and white body as the R-78 Gundam or any black helmeted figure as Darth Vader.
Oboretai
If it's base design is the same as the previous stage with extra bits, like Greymon and Metalgreymon or Garurumon and Weregarurumon, then yeah I'm fine with that naming convention. But yeah in cases where the design is completely different from the previous stage maybe except sharing the same motif, then it'd be better to have it's own name.
Greymon and Agumon are different enough beyond just the helmet, the colors and stripes are enough to warrant a different name, otherwise almost all theropod Digimons will just be _____agumon. Tyrannomon just be Redbigagumon, Veemon just Blueagumon, and Guilmon be Redandslightlylargerbutnotasbigastheotherredbigagumon.

Made me wish more that she'd play a part in Souji's arc. Like imagine if Marinechimeramon was one of Souji's previous partner she saved from being eaten. Would've given so much more depth to this shot and Honoka as a character as a whole.
Oboretai
Honoka should've had some connections to Souji. Imagine if Marinechimeramon was one of Souji's previous partner that Honoka saved from being eaten. That would've added so much more depth and caring to her character than just being a one-dimensional simp.
Oboretai
Still don't like that they're basically palette swaps of each other though. Would've preferred if Albatusmon has a lamia lower body.
And yes Volvemon has Temu Omegamon vibes going on. At least make it half-black-half-white and have some snake and lizard components to it.

I mean as underwhelming as he is as an anime character, he is kinda true to real life tech billionaires like Sam Altman or Peter Thiel.
Became a billionaire from one single product that they mostly just funded and didn't invent themselves, having outright disdain for humanity and willing to see it burn to make line go up, and promotes people not for actual merits but on whoever is willing to cheat and backstab for them, until they are the one who gets backstabbed. IRL evil is petty and boring, and Wong is exactly just that.
Besides, the fact he never had a Digimon partner should already have been a clear signal that you weren't ever gonna fight him directly.
Oboretai
Yup, that's him.
He also basically has Holostars logo on his eyebrows
Oboretai
Eh, I think it's a very rare instance of how underdesigned it is for a Mega Digimon. Looks kinda like something you'd see in a random Isekai show.
Slap some more belts and spikes on then we're talking

Less of mains but thematically considering the state of the world, it's a golden opportunity to make a Digimon story where the Digimons are an allegory to the tech. The protags use their Digimon responsibly, the villainous Digimons are basically embodiments of big tech.
Just a story on how harmful tech can be but it's also impossible to completely cut it out of your life so the best way is to use it in a healthy and responsible way.
Is it too deep for a kids' show? Not really, Beatbreak already tackled themes of inequality, digital surveillance, tech monopolies through Sapotamas, so it's just a step forward from that. I mean it's like the one topic Digimon can tackle that no other monster collector franchises can.
But to relate to the topic, it'd be nice to have a main partner who embodies that theme. Like it's sycophantic even to the protagonist's worst aspects and the plot is for both the protagonist and the partner to develop as both healthy individuals and a healthy relationship between each others. But that also doesn't feel fitting for a shounen protag so maybe that can be the deuteragonist pair instead.

Wished Honoka should've had some connections with literally anyone else outside of Kaito.
Lowkey hoped she had connections with Souji, like if Marinechimeramon was one of Souji's previous partners that Honoka saved from being eaten and now they wanted revenge on him. So even if she gets beaten, it's a chance to allow her to develop her own respect for Kyo when she sees Habakirimon beats Souji. Give her the chance to show that she's capable of caring for a different character.
Oboretai
Either the ultimate or mega should've been named Simurghmon
Oboretai
Funny how Souji trivialized 3 stars in one go.
- Stole focus as Kyo's rival from Kaito
- Is a far superior water star to Honoka
- physically Worfed Rose
Souji should have had some connections with Honoka to at least give her something to do more than be a 1 dimensional simp, but nah.
Oboretai
Eh, it's been the same issue with almost all original animes these days. (Same probably applies back in the day, speaking without nostalgia glasses).
Strong beginning > meandering middle with a lot of "filler" > rushed ending when they realized they're running out of episodes.
Seen in it almost every franchises, Yugioh, Gundam, etc. You'd think major franchises like these would be well planned from the beginning to the end but nah, most of them are just written along as they aired.
Oboretai
To the contrary. Like in the argument of "Araki hates dogs" to why dogs always die in Jojo, he doesn't hate hate dogs, he loves them and dogs' deaths are used to show how evil the villains must be to kill something so innocent.
Death of friendly lion men, a combination of a cat, a common housepet, a lion, a symbol of power and father figure, and a literal human, is an easy way to communicate the kids has to become independent.
Oboretai
I mean Kyo had to be nerfed somehow in order to make the kids become more independent, if anything it was actually surprising Murasamemon made it this long.
Oboretai
Skullseadramon too, maybe. Kinda more viperfish but I guess he counts
Oboretai
Neither would Japanese kids, so they can, you know, learn through their kids' media?
Hell, even many adult Pokemon fans doesn't know what an anomalocaris is even though Armaldo is a thing. Not knowing isn't an excuse to not give anyone a chance to learn.

Note: This fix oozes of 2026 and totally would be considered weird writing in the 1990s.
To fix both of Yamato's weird resolutions in the 02 finale, make Sora the astronaut. Yamato throughout both Adventures and 02 have much more of a music interest going on while for 90s kids Sora was the tomboy icon AND she is the one with the bird Digimon, so it'd make much more natural sense for her to develop interests in space than him.
Then just give them one scene in 02 of them maybe writing a song about stars together, have that be the song he sings while Sora smiles in the crowd and that should be enough. Can't let them steal too much spotlight from the actual 02 kids when it's not their show anymore.
If anything, give them actual developments in tri, adding further on about them helping each other work towards their future careers.
But of course Digimon being a 90s kids show is allergic to both having actual romance arc and letting a tomboy be a tomboy rather than a phase they're expected to grow out of, so again I know this would feel super weird if it was actually written this way in the 90s.

Kinda makes me feel weird about the situation, since apparently what Gamma did was bad enough that his genmates decides to cut ties with him completely even in private, and it's coming from Uyu, who's not the "corpo pet" type of guy anyway.
When he was terminated UPROAR's wording already sounded like they already don't consider him a friend anymore, and that's okay. Most Vtubers don't keep track of their genmates even when they graduated on good terms and that's fine, but saying that "I find it offensive you even want to see us on stage together again" is like, another level.
Yet at the same time, I'm sorry if this breaks the rules but Gamma himself is able to hold a stable job outside of COVER right now and even when he was terminated, his wording admitted that he screwed up and it was not done out of malice. I mean if it was out of malice I don't think COVER would've let him had that last tweet to begin with.
Not trying to frame either side as the bad guy here, I know things are more complicated than that, but it's also uncomfortable seeing someone having this level of disgust towards their own ex-genmate.
Oboretai
Man, it's sad to hear him break down during Hello World. I still remember fondly when he premiered it on his 3D reveal years ago.
With both his musical and gaming skills, COVER really wasted his talents for nothing.
Oboretai
Might be cope, but considering his words, he has very high chances of reincarnating in REJECT.
- He said he's graduating because a friend offered him a job and he has a ton of friends in REJECT. He also (jokingly) asked Tooko-chan to adopt him into REJECT earlier.
- When the downsizing was first announced, he said he was going to stay and his content was going to be the same, that downsizing doesn't hurt him, but later he said he's graduating because he needs company support to do what he wants, which at least in REJECT, he can co-fund his projects with friends, something which he can't do in COVER. At the bare minimum, he can fund his own merches which again, can't do in COVER.
- Several friends he collabed with in the past week hasn't been very subtle about "we'll see you again" part.
Pitched one some time before, given the current events Digimon has the golden opportunity to make a story where the Digimons are allegories to tech, with evil Digimons each embodying big tech coming together to manipulate human socity through social media, brainrot, psychosis, misinformation, etc, in order to extract their e-pulse(or the new anime's equivalent) to power themselves up.
So even the protagonists represents different impacts tech can have on human lives, be it short attention span, loneliness epidemic, social media addiction, etc. Their Digimon partners represent the tech that made these problems worse, so their evolutions reflects both the Digimon and the tamers fostering healthier and better relationship to tech.
It's not only super relevant but it's like the premise only Digimon can pull off, so I'm hoping for that.
