Friends and acquaintances have asked me about this every once in a while over the years.
If we're in a simulation, then all phenomena is generated by the computer: including consciousness. This holds UNLESS we are envatted, and we have some biological brain somewhere. (Doubtful).
The alternative is that our avatar's brains are rendered all the time, and they somehow realize and generate consciousness from the simulation level. (There are serious problems here, but under functionalism it shouldn't be impossible.)
So, yes, you're right in my estimation: the suggestion that we are in a simulation likewise suggests that we are "AIs" of one sort or another. If a computer can generate an immersive, responsive, intersubjectively coherent reality experience, then I think there's a good chance such a system could also generate enminded, conscious players to experience said reality. Further, a computer sophisticated enough to create such a reality is almost certainly some kind of advanced exotic AI itself.

is this where that sound effect originated from? the alarm thing

All ya gotta do is the good old heart to heart. The thing to do is to open with letting them know you need their full attention. And that it's important to you to have it. That'll be a good gauge for BOTH of you. Because if they refuse or dismiss, then they're pretty immature and you have to make new moves knowing that.
If they tune in and realize that this is an IMPORTANT conversation, then you can proceed. We like important conversations usually, because within them is an opportunity for insight and change--one of our obsessions.
So, begin from there. Be authentic, be gentile, be sincere and say everything that you have to say. If they can take it, then they're on the way to growing. This is a growth opportunity for both of you. Them to listen, and you to speak your mind. This is valuable.
Even if it doesn't work out, that's okay too. Maybe you'll both need some time to think.
My dad was an infj. He was quite proud of being the rarest. I can tell you, we were very close, and we both had very big personalities. Things worked when we both had love as a focus, and we were willing to hear uncomfortable things. When it didn't work out, it was usually because HE clammed up. Or gave up. On my end, it was when I felt he wasn't being sensitive to me too. So I'd just say, I'll return when he can be less of a dominating ass. I'm sure he felt I was slippery-impossible.
All that being said, we very very much loved each other. If they are ready, it might be a very deep time for you both indeed.

Uuuh, I have to admit we are not always the best authoritiarians frankly. And sometimes when you really need one, it shows.
We can seem weird about that because we are so righteous, but we normally shrink from certain kinds of conflict I think. We can become woefully inadequate when it comes to enforcement -- or maybe this was just me.
I had to learn to be harder sometimes because I bartended. And there are lines.
When I read ENFP IS THE MANAGER, I like laughed so fing hard. Like legit. Of course.

That show was the final twist of the knife that had been plunging deeper and deeper into the franchise since AVP.
I called the show and Romulus "Disney's Alien" because that's what it is.
Fuck that show. Fuck that movie. "Characters." You mean like bouncy ball trillionaire boy genius? Or derpy robot thinks she's pregnant? Or the two man children that just bumble into each other over and over again?
I wish I were dead when I hear claims like: Alien Earth had characters. Get real.

We are to some. I've been in the past. Very much so. I have to reiterate what some have already said here.
It does get easier with age. However the externalized, verbal, emotional processing is just what we do. It's what makes us so famously "much".
I just want to say: there is growing up and then there is trying to change yourself for someone else. Trying to change what you are is kinda hopeless. I tried. It was very disappointing and depressing, and I eventually ended up being good ole me again anyway---with family and friends that understood and loved me FOR my intensity.
But you do learn that sometimes you gotta... you know, consider your audience.
OddEdges
Dayum. This is... one of the best summaries of us I've ever read. Amazing.
(Question tho, what do ya mean exactly by metacognition?)
OddEdges
You are! Remember, it's like practicing any sport, or game, or art pra. You're not gonna paint the Mona Lisa day one. But with practice, you'll make something truly great.

Rather than just "it's interdimensional" and/or "holographic" and leaving it at that, I think the simulation theory offers a more coherent explanation of what we are seeing with BOTH ufo related issues and parapsych phenomena
OddEdges
This is a VAST improvement from the previous swing at it. Really a big step.
I'd be lying if I didn't say I would like to see one more a tad less rushed, and again, a little more broken up about this character facing this rather major life-want. That being said. Better. Keep at it!
OddEdges
The film is one of the greatest movies ever made.
The show is not one of greatest shows ever made.
We are not the same.
OddEdges
A pleasure! Keep at it!
WATCH your words. "SIX years." The screenplay is telling you what you need to know: "I hate my mom." Or "She meant the world to me!" We have to mean these things when we say them. We memorize our lines so much so we DONT have to think about them as we say them. Then we can DISCOVER THEM by WATCHING THEM come out of our mouths in a scene like this.
WATCH your colleague's words when they deliver lines to you. That's how you get good, believable reactions. It's about watching, not waiting. You'll get SO much out of it once you swap out waiting for watching/listening.
"Acting" is listening and watching; the actions in between I think can happen almost of their own accord if you're really engaging those two faculties most of the time. (Not all of the time. But more times then you'd think.) Becoming absorbed in them. That absorption is what the audience is paying you for: you being absorbed in those words and feelings. Just remember, acting is submitting to imagination and play. Like as kids. The stick WAS a gun. The rock WAS an emerald. The game-rules rule. It's all about playing the game.
This it is why acting is fun, challenging, and potentially quite deep. How far can game-playing take you, how far can it go? That's what we see in really "great" actors. People entirely absorbed in the game and playing it well or beautifully, or interestingly, or amusingly.
Best!! :D

I've never seen the film, so I'm just going on the opportunity the words in the monologue offer as well as your performance.
I'd like to see a more CRUSHED version of this, because it's TEETERING on the crushed-ness particularly at the end.
Think about it: SIX YEARS. Imagine, for instance, trying to conceive a baby with the person you love more than anyone else in the world for SIX years, failing, and then having them turn around and say, "I never really loved you," or "I have fallen OUT of love with you." Six years of schooling that your grandparents paid for only to get an F. That's the kind of opportunity this monologue offers, I think. This is about losing. Losing for a LONG time. And now, just barely beginning to accept it. Saying it OUT LOUD for the first time. You don't have to go over the top, per se. But this is a good start, better than most. I would like to see one where the weight hits a few times THROUGHOUT the monologue.
I think the interesting choices here would be: anger, frustration, sadness, pained defeat. That list early on, making a sandwich etc -- it's such a good list to take advantage of. Don't whine. Be beaten.
Remember, INTERESTING choices that are TRUE is what... well, it's what I want for myself. (Or I just want to get lost in the role and let autopilot do its dirty work.) And lastly: Listen--Listen to these lines as they come out your mouth. Realizations should wash over you as you say these things. Not every single one, but some. This isn't like a cellphone conversation to a relative you half want to get off the phone with. This is an opportunity to hear the words finally come out of your mouth. I HATE admitting the kinds of things that this character admits in this speech. It should hurt to say some of these things, as much as it could ALSO be something of a secret relief. Finally saying them out loud. As these things often are.
Anyway, my two cents. Great start! Go DEEP! 🙂 👍
Genuinely would love to see another swing at this.

that movie is fantastic

booze. quitting drinking saved myself, my family, and has given me a life beyond my wildest dreams. my world is a living miracle. it's still filled with challenges. but now I actually have the wherewithal to face them, and learn, and grow. I never thought I'd ever be proud of myself, but after I gave it up, it's like having a completely different relationship with myself and the world. giving it up has giving me an entirely new reality.
