Odyssey also had cool characters, but I believe black flag had still more solid, impactful, and emotionally attached characters. Even in terms of numbers, bf had more characters and they were all great. I also think that motion capturing all the cutscenes in bf made a huge positive impact on this. Motion capturing, makes the characters feel alive and it hugely helps the story deliver

Yes you’re right, we quickly get to know most of the important characters in the game, and their relation with Edward. Which builds for more dramatic arcs later in the story. Roberts arc for example is really cool, how his first meet with Edward was when he was prisoned by the templars, and how you get to know each other faces.Then you chase him and get him back to the templars which becomes the first interaction between both characters.Great introduction for who becomes the game main villain later. also how both of you would ally together after what happened, and then you find out he’s was just using you… it was amazing

I don’t wanna nitpick lol , but bf was released before rdr2 by 5 years, so most probably rdr2 used some of the same techniques bf did and not the opposite 😁

Tbh, i haven’t play all the games you mentioned. But I don’t really agree about calling bf side characters okay. They’re amazing, I’m not trying to exaggerate, but I truly believe they’re great.

Blackbeard, Adewale, James Kidd, Stede Bonnet, Roberts,Anne bonne, Hornigold, Vane, Torres, Rogers, ah tabai, even duncan who literally appears for few minutes has a lot of impact on the story too. All these characters I mentioned do actually have weight and importance in the game. They all have their moment and we are emotionally attached to them. Either we hate them, love them there’s a lot of emotions. Removing any of these characters would hugely negatively affect the story, and that tells you a lot about how perfectly written they’re.
