It is unhinged to demand that women carry non-viable pregnancies to term, risking their own physical health delivering the baby, and mental health at seeing the newborn baby you forced them to have die in their arms. There is no benefit to forcing the parents to go through that process. Every child aborted in the final trimester was a wanted baby and is a tragedy to the families, there's no need to make things worse.

Nonsense. Mercator introduces significant shape distortion the further from the equator you go. Just look at Antarctica. I'd actually argue the distortion introduced by the new projection is far easier to understand and mentally decode than the distortion introduced by Mercator.

Cartographers have been calling for the Mercator projection to be used less since the 19th century. Who do you think gave the UN this idea?

Literally all 2D maps do this. You have described a mathematically provable property of all maps. Choosing a map projection is an exercise in compromise. I think the new projection is far better suited to its intended purpose of conveying global data.

There is no such thing as an accurate 2D map, every projection has its own compromises. This change at the UN is for representing global data in infographics where I think the new projection makes sense.

The area-preserving nature of the new projection is a really important property that we shouldn't be glossing over.
